Everyone knows the best way to heal racial relations in the USA is to...
Make movie after movie about white people in an isolated part of America ages and ages ago killing or enslaving black people. That's going to bridge the divide! You bet.
shareMake movie after movie about white people in an isolated part of America ages and ages ago killing or enslaving black people. That's going to bridge the divide! You bet.
shareSo should there be no films about the The Holocaust because it makes Germany look bad?
shareThe holocaust films are not being made in order to guilt-trip modern Germans.
shareLMAO...YOU HAVE SOME OF THE STUPIDEST OPINIONS ON THIS SITE...LMAO. NOEMOJI
shareThat's what Leftists say when someone hits a nerve.
shareI AM NOT A LEFTIST...WHATEVER YOU THINK THAT MEANS. NOEMOJI
shareIf you cannot see that modern Hollywood has a definite agenda to defame Whites, you must be either in denial or very naive.
shareHe’s both.
shareYOU ARE CLEARLY A MORON. NOEMOJI
shareIts important not to forget history or hide it away because certain things were awful. It teaches us why things are the way they are today AND hopefully prevents us from making the same wrong choices in the future.
shareI don't watch movies in order to be taught things. But even if I did, I'm not likely to ever enslave anyone, and if I was going to it would take more than some movie to stop me.
shareThis is a very good point.
shareI'm aware that you don't like to be educated. That doesn't mean that the rest of us feel that way. Showing this film will help explain to a lot of people how we got to where we are today and that is hugely important.
shareIs it really possible to defame a child killer? They are already evil. Why do you love those criminals so much that you oppose defaming them on the forum?
shareThis is it exactly! I feel that he is outraged because he feels guilty because he's a racist so he see's this film as shaming white people instead of shaming the white, bigoted, racist evil, southern racists.
shareYou really don't get it, do you?
I suppose if you watched anti-Jewish Nazi propaganda films from the 1930s, you would insist that those films were only meant to shame those who were "greedy lecherous Jews" and not to create negative stereotypes and generate hatred towards Jewish people in general.
You're putting far too much effort into propping up the reputation of the men that killed Till.
shareIt's just not really about those particular men. Hollywood is just using them as representatives for all whites, so audiences will hate them or feel self-disgust at their own whiteness. It's like how in the past, all the Native Americans depicted in movies were portrayed as violent, scalping savages. Audiences are meant to come out of the movie horrified that white people in general did that to poor Till. Not that THOSE particular men did it. Do you think there will be even one sympathetic white character? Doubt it.
If they made a movie about a case where blacks killed a young white like this, it would be protested by mobs of thousands.
It really is strange that you would feel this way because of a film. Do you feel this way because of a guilty conscience? I have never felt disgust over myself as the result of a character portrayal in a film.
Exactly which years in American cinema depicted all Native Americans as violent blood thirsty savages?
You have not seen this film yet, so why are you so certain that the producers intend that you feel "white people in general" would "do that to poor Till"?
There are films depicting black on white violence. I've yet to hear of any "mobs of thousands" protesting as you say would happen.
I am totally sick of the guilt-trips Hollywood has been trying to lay on us the past couple of decades. Not because I have a guilty conscience. My family never owned slaves and never did anything against blacks or any minority. What sickens me is the constant stream of anti-white propaganda churning out of the bowels of Hollywood this century.
Guess you never watched any Westerns made between 1900 and 1970.
Name one film about black on white violence produced during the past 20 years.
It's only a guilt trip if you actually feeling guilty. I think you feel guilty and instead of being an outlier, you want to have company on the trip by including a bunch more people you only imagine feel the same as you.
So "all the Native Americans depicted in movies" from 1900 to 1970 were violent scalping savages? What about Tonto in the Lone Ranger films/TV series? The Lakotas in Dances With Wolves? Can you be more clueless if you tried?
I think you would only feel sickened from a guilty conscience. I've no reason to feel guilty, why should you?
Why are you moving the goal posts before I give you the names of films? How about White Man's Burden or Birth of a Nation?
Think what you like, man. At least I am not so clueless as to think Dances With Wolves was made between 1900 and 1970.
shareYou said above, "It's like how in the past, all the Native Americans depicted in movies were portrayed as violent, scalping savages."
Dances With Wolves is a good example.
ETA; these are good examples of how wrong you are.
You said:

WOW...RIGHT OFF THE DEEP END. NOEMOJI
shareBring back "Sanford & Son", "Good Times", "Whats Happening". before its too late.
shareThose were awesome shows. I loved the characters and I watched all of them.
shareBring back "Steptoe & Son", the TRUE progenitor to that stupid "Sanford & Son" crap!
And guess what? The former men mentioned are WHITE, too! :D
The former men mentioned are WHITE, too! :D
whats your point?
where are you going with that ?
what do you mean?
why is the fact Steptoe was white relevent to the discussion?
Exactly! But in this day and age the agenda is to create devide anyway possible !
shareLet me follow that thread. What is the motive for 'dividing' people?
shareDivide and conquer...
shareCould you elaborate please?
shareIf blacks and whites hate each other and continue to hold each other responsible for events that happened before almost everyone alive was even born, then we'll be too distracted to ever figure out how badly we are all being exploited by those in power who pull our strings.
shareI wasn't asking you, I wanted to hear what Branson was thinking specifically because I already know the ignorant things you say and wanted to hear this person's point of view.
share"Ignorant" is a defense word people such as yourself use when they are faced with reality.
shareThe reply by whynotwriteme is spot on.
The elites have utilized division for years to keep the masses occupied with trivial matters. However, in recent years, there has been a push to not only to divide but to antagonize.
Thank you! It's nice to see that someone else can see through this crap.
shareI was hoping that you would be more objectively intelligent than whynotwriteme but I guess not since you are letting him speak for you. I really wanted to have an intelligent conversation.
shareAgreeing is not speaking for someone. The fact is, I had already claimed divide and conquer.
How convient you cite intelligent conversation while making excuses to avoid it.
Making excuses to avoid it? No, I'd like to have an intelligent conversation with someone who has an opinion of their own.
shareYes, weak excuses. You're clearly unable to have any kind of discussion.
Constantly, rehashing past tragedies based on racial lines only stirs continued bad feelings and division. Instead: How do you stop racism? "Stop talking about it."
Morgan Freeman
Is this film isn't talking about racism. YOU are. This film serves the same purpose that holocaust films do.
shareThis film isn't talking about racism? Odd, the director states otherwise:
"With the release of director Chinonye Chukwu’s “Till,” the conversation of the nation’s racist history and violence toward Black people is being revisited."
Umm, it doesn't look like the director said that at all. That's written by a journalist. Unless people have started talking in the third person.
shareIt was derived from the director's interview explictly talking about racism:
"CHUKWU: Mamie has this really difficult, heartbreaking task or reality that she has to engage in, and that is she has to figure out how to raise her child to be in his power and to be a child and be free while also having to figure out how to make him prepared for the realities of this racist world that we live in, that where him being in his power and living in his light can result in his death. And that's an impossible situation that many of us, as people of color, have to navigate."
There's a difference . . . What happened was racist obviously, there is racism obviously. The movie is about a horrific racist event but the point of the film is historical. No doubt that black people have to live in a racist world! I mean Jesus Christ that's obvious. It's important that we document stuff like this, educating people on it is the only way we can understand what is happening in today's world.
shareYou already claimed this film wasn't talking about racism. When you are wrong about something that was not debatable it proves my point that you're unable to have a discussion.
shareIt allows democrats to run on issues such as keeping the blacks down and making them the victim. Its always about acquiring more power
shareYhat's an interesting thought! I do sometimes think that making a group SPECIAL, segregates them when what we should be doing it integrating everyone in this country as fellow Americans. In that sense I'd be super annoyed if there was a 'woman's' month.
shareTimes moved on.
shareBecause demanding that black people forget all the horrors their ancestors endured worked so well.
shareYeah. Let's all hate each other instead! Let's continue to demonize and alienate the white people and encourage blacks to hate them through 'entertainment'
Where do you see that ending up?
Or we could ask the worst white people to stop being racists and keeping the racial tensions and anger fresh!
Yeah, that'll work well...
Sorry, but demonizing white people in movies and prompting black people to hate them is just going to create more and more angry hostile white people.
If I kept calling you a piece of shit every day because of something some other otters did a hundred years ago, would it make you go "Gee! I guess I really have been a piece of shit. I better start sucking up to this guy and be friends!" No. It would piss you off.
you've got a real persecution complex about this havent you ?
you can relax - the movie is not blaming you for slavery
No, dear, the movie is blaming a bunch of white people for murdering Till and corrupting the justice system, so they could commit murder most foul with impunity.
Which is what happened in real life.
Yes , they are saying *those* white people were bad.
Not the current white people.
Well, it's not like racism became a good thing in the intervening years.
The thing is, Hollywood would NEVER make a movie where black people are being the evil aggressors toward white people. You would never see a movie about The Zebra Murders, or the New Orleans shooting spree murders by Mark Essex. This fact proves that the purpose behind this sort of film is a political one to stir animosity toward whites, and not simply to recount history.
shareIf anyone here has trouble understanding "White Fragility", look no further!
shareI'd say black fragility is much more of a real thing. All black characters in modern film must be noble, wise, and understanding and competent at everything they do, or it's RACISM!
shareYou are such a snowflake.
shareWhat's your point?
shareDude, you're whining because Hollywood has made a film that criticizes murder, terrorism, racism, and the corruption of the legal system. WTF is wrong with you?
shareDon't be dense. It's because Hollywood deliberately chooses to have cases like this represent white and black interactions in America. What if every single movie Hollywood made about black and white interactions was about blacks killing or robbing whites? They never make anything with a harmonious theme. It's all about division and picking off scabs. What good does it do other than promote racial conflict and animosity in the present day?
share"Waah waaaah waaah!! Why can't Hollywood put me first in all things! Why must it make movies that people who aren't like me might like!"
shareMake whatever movies you want but please stop making all the people with my skin tone who are in them play the bad guys every. single. time.
shareWell, now you know how all the people who never saw people like themselves in the movies except as bad guys or menials felt for all those years.
Now fuck off, I'm tired of your foolishness and self-pity.
It's not about this one film. It's that this film is part of a never-ending chain of similar films that are obviously meant to promote disharmony.
shareif someone invent time machine and tell american they can now go back and stop emmit til, jim crows and slavery, they would all refuse to use it. when you ask them why, they say "what will we do with ourselfs!!?? youve taken our reason for live away!!! what will we cries non stop about? what we will guilt white peoples about!!" hahahahahaha.
shareThat's exactly why the Democrats never actually fix any of the problems they are always promising the black people that they will address.
shareyou have society of victim complex peoples in america, they think 1922 is 2022, they think 1865 is 2022, and this hates is worth mega $$$ to many in united states of victim. what a great place of race obsess retart!! would love to move there someday and claim victim.
the israeli, backed by USA, take my arab peoples land but they no make movie after movie after movie after movie after movie about Al-Nakba. why? i always wonder this. is there people in charge in hollywoods with agendas? they like strife between race but not cover others. not fair. my arab peoples suffer NOW not century ago.
DUDE...NOBODY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOU...IF YOU WANT TO TROLL PROPERLY...YOU NEED TO START OFF AS A NORMAL POSTER...MAKE A FEW FRIENDS...DEVELOP SOME ASSOCIATION WITH OTHERS...THEN YOU START SAYING STUPID ASS BULLSHIT. NOEMOJI
shareYeah. As trolls go, this one's costume is dime-store. Comes off like a person copying a person copying a person doing a flat Borat impression, but Saudi style.
I demand more convincing trolls! I can't deliver genuine outrage if the offense is so obviously dubious.
1955 is not ages and ages ago. There are most likely many people still alive who remember Till or the trial of the men accused (and later admitting to) killing him.
People like you act like denying our history is going to keep us from making the same mistakes over and over again.
No. These films are just going to create a lot of angry people on both sides of an ever-widening (thanks in part to these movies) racial divide. If you want racial harmony, make movies showing blacks and whites cooperating and being friends.
shareYEAH...WE SHOULD STOP MAKING MOVIES THAT DEPICT OUR HISTORY. NOEMOJI
shareStop making only movies that demonize one race.
shareYOU WHITE POWER GUYS ARE WHINY PUSSIES...I WOULD HAVE ASSUMED YOU WOULD AT LEAST HAVE THE BALLS TO COME RIGHT OUT AND SAY YOUR SHIT. NOEMOJI
shareI am saying it right here in this thread. Anything else you think I want to express exists only in your own fevered imagination.
