If you don't like this particular film, okay. But what's tired about this theme? African-American men make up the majority of male prisons - that's just basic statistics. Until this is not a reality, this theme will be very fresh for a lot of people. Also, how many films like this are there that makes this one just one too many? The Hurricane is the only one I can think of.

I didn't go to "blacks", this movie is centred around the injustice African-American men have and continue to face regarding the flawed justice system.
But dude, I can admit I am not familiar with this genre - I feel like there have been stand out movies here and there, like the Clint Eastwood one...True Crime? And the Shawshank Redemption. I don't know that the genre is overrun or tired because I can't think of that many others.

shawshank was an excellent film, but i woldn't classify it at all as being one of the social injustice films i referenced in my op above. just a plain well done story.

there are so many i can't name them all. and it seems they are actually increasing in the past 5-10 years, not diminishing. my theory on this is that is due to the climate of recent marxist-baiting by the leftists powers that be, but hey that's a whole other topic lol (if interested google jordan peterson channel 4 interview)
You do know that this is based on a true story about a black man who was accused of a murder he didn't commit because he lived in a racist southern town at the time, right? The movie market isn't being saturated with movies like these, that's just your impression. And they get made every now and then for the simple damn fact that the cases they are based keep happening in real life----it dosen't have s*** to do with whatever "marxist-baiting" you're talking about---what a stupid term to use. Are you implying that they are all innocent? The defendant in every movie like this is always innocent. I don’t have a problem with these movies, there are some pretty good ones out there, but that quote just struck me as odd in the context of this discussion.
I’m not saying there aren’t innocent people in prison, of ALL races, but just because African American men make up the highest prison population doesn’t mean that they are all innocent...a high percentage of them committed a crime and deserve to be there. share
Yeah literally everyone portrays police officers as racists who attack minorities for no reason. The Hate U Give, Queen and Slim, See You Yesterday, and this are just few in the past year. Not all cops are racists.

The issue of black people having to deal with racist police still goes on in real life, whether movies made about them or not. It's easy to dismiss that as an issue when you're not black and never have to actually deal with that as an actual issue.

That's why police brutality has always been a bigger issue in communities with people of color, because the police got away with more racist s*** there.

I don't know...if something like this could happen to a single person anywhere, its well worth pointing it out. But to have it happen, at apparently the very least, once out of eight or nine death row convictions...there's a problem there. One that you'd hope average people would, if not get a little passionate about it, at least take note of as a real problem that affects real people. Instead of the yawning seen here. For a movie you didn't even see. Which...the more you dissect it, the more depressing it gets. Yikes!

This is the perfect medium for highlighting injustices..for exposing corruption and to fight for the little guy...this is the pinnacle of cinema IMO, and they can't make enough movies like this. Watch the movie, the utterly insane bullshit that went down and see how surprised you are that something like this could happen in modern day America. If you're American and you care about your country, I think you'd agree that that kind of batshit crazy should always see the light of day, and that we can't know where to improve without first seeing where improvements are needed. shareReally is one of those movies where you think to yourself...holy crap, this is something you'd think happens in China or Russia or something. It sometimes seems like America is not the country that its citizens think it is...and IMO the only thing that can make it better is to have people be held accountable, hold people/institutions responsible. And the first step to make that happen is "awareness", you know?
Like you can twist it and be like, "Hey did you know that in China, the prosecutors are actually elected, which means that in order for them to be successful in their profession, they need to make sure and get as many convictions as possible? Which means that there's a conflict of interest built RIGHT INTO the profession where prosecutors will ignore evidence that doesn't fit their needs...where their self interest can matter just as much, if not more, than actual justice. Lol their sole purpose, their ONLY job...often comes into direct conflict with their career goals...their hopes and dreams or whatever, is that nuts or what?? Lol oh China!
Except of course, that's right here in America...and its frigging weird, right? The supposedly most free country on earth, all about liberty and justice for all...and yet has the scales being tipped built right into the system.

shareMy personal take is that its just too difficult for people to try and wrap their head around stuff like this. This is just one instance, let alone a justice system that likely has thousands of stories just like this one waiting to be told.
Its much easier to tell yourself a story...that people somehow get what they deserve, that this is just the other team rattling on about the same bullshit they always do, trying to make white people look bad or whatever...
In fact, it seems like you can boil it down to what kind of person you choose to be. If you want it easy in life, then just paint with broad strokes, compartmentalize, tell yourself whatever you want to hear, give in to that darker part of human nature where you pretend you have all the answers.
Or you can actively try and monitor yourself to not be that kind of person. At least attempt to put yourself in others' shoes and realize that ideas like 'truth' and 'justice' are bigger than you and your tribal bullshit...they mean something, they're concepts that our forefathers built this country around and its on the people themselves to ensure they're upheld. If that needs to start by just acknowledging issues where they're seriously lacking, so be it...but for people to shit on a movie highlighting injustice because its too "liberal" or whatever...maybe take a hard fucking look at your politics, you know? What you said made perfect sense. It's easy for white people in particular to dismiss issues like that because they never actually have to deal with them, or know anybody who's had to deal with them. Their attitude is that since these issues don't affect them, then they're not important, which is part of their white privilege. But, seriously, movies about social justice have literally been made since movies were invented, and for someone to complain or whine about them even being made is just plain fckg stupid. They shouldn't watch them then if they hate movies like these so much. Nobody is making them watch these movies, let alone this one.
