How is season 3?
Just wondering, without any spoilers please. I LOVED season 1 but was mild towards season 2. Did it get better again or go further downhill?

shareI only watched the first episode of season 3 so far and I loved that episode!!!! :)
shareGoing downhill. Hard.
shareI think it's an almost seamless continuation, I'm on episode 4 and loving every minute. That said it's got a darker feel than the previous two seasons and the pacing is tight. Visually it's bright and punchy. I guess my only gripe is that although it's set in 1984 it doesn't feel like 1984.
shareNot as good as the previous two sadly
shareOnly halfway through, but enjoying it a lot! As with most series, season 1 is the best, but this is certainly just as good as season 2 imo which I thought was great.
shareThere is a lot to like this season. Plenty of great 80's movie references and some of the character conversations are great and it's also better than season 2. It also has the best production values and action on this show yet. Unfortunately with all the new characters I don't think they could give everyone adequate screen time, especially with the amount of action in the second half of the season. A lot of running and screaming in the second half as well and lots of gory CGI action, it honestly felt quite climactic and felt like it could have been the final season with a few tweaks to the story.
Season 4 should definitely be the final season now unless they come up with something really inventive to keep the show going.
I have seen the first season three times. The second I saw only once becaise I felt it showed a definite drop in quality from the first and was too derivative. Many people disliked the way the kids were separated from each other. The third season I found significantly more entertaining and I'm already rewatching it. Some new innovations this season: Winona Ryder and David Harbour are largely used for comic relief scenes this time around and much of it works well. And Maya Hawke made a very welcome addition to the cast and had several effective scenes with Joe Keery. All the kids get nice moments scattered throughout the season, but sadly Caleb McLaughlin (the black one in the group) remains a cipher and is the weakest of the major characters as he has been in previous seasons. Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton were also not integrated well into the story (though Jake Busey was amusing in his scenes with Nancy). Noah Schnapp as Will Beyers has usually not contributed much except a terrifying bowl cut but this time does have a couple of affecting scenes largely with Finn Wolfhard. I wasn't wild about the Russophobic storyline that demonstrates the Duffer Brothers have heard and believed the ridiculous lies coming from the Democratic Party the past three years, but it helps set the plot in motion. Still, despite these misgivings, I.found it far more entertaining than season 2.
shareI won't bother addressing your political comments. Not the place.
Perhaps you didn't grow up in the 80's but trust me, anti-communist paranoia was a huge thing. Movies like Red Dawn (the original) hit a nerve because we were always being led to believe the USSR was on the verge of surpassing our technology and mounting an invasion. Or infiltrating and conquering our country from within. Plus we were in a nuclear standoff that had many people believing it was only a matter of when and not if The Button would be pressed ... one day soon out of the blue the world was going to end.
It seems strange now that so many regular folks had such a fatalistic attitude, but they did. The threat of imminent annihilation was hanging over us all the time. A secret Soviet base under a shopping mall is exactly the sort of thing you'd see in an 80's film. Russians were pretty much the bad guys of choice.
You almost never hear it talked about, but the fear of global destruction going away in the 90's changed the mood of American culture. It was like a burden being lifted.
I really enjoyed season 3!
Just finished it. I thought it brought a great mixture of humor, suspense, horror, and surprising heart. It was pretty damn emotional at the end.
I loved how they utilized such a large cast, because pretty much every character had something to do.
I liked it more than season 2. I'm sure the way the internet is, that most people will dislike it for whatever reason, but I really loved season 3.
