Despite Title, Criminal Minds Clearly Filmed in the USA

Did you notice that every scene with actors in appears to be filmed in the US?

That the few wide shots of Thailand are don't have the actors in them.

The market scene is way too clean looking. Not even close looking to the street markets of Bangkok.

That the outdoor scenes with the vegetation in them looks nothing like the jungles of Thailand.

During the roof top scene with the actors the skyline don't remotely look like the skyline of Bangkok. It looks more like Los Angeles.

In short, it looks like any episode of Criminal Minds. Nothing new to see here.

I couldn't shake the feeling Gibbs had been shot somewhere around "Bangkok" last season. NCIS:LA frequently shoot in areas of "Africa" that remind me of M*A*S*H's "Korea." It happens.

I have no problems with other cities substituting for another because most cities in North America look the same. It does not matter if you are in Vancouver BC, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Cleveland, or Houston. Cities all look alike, especially downtown areas.

However, when it come to exotic locations like Bangkok, there is no way to replicate these cities with North American cities. These far away cities are unique and it just does not look right when the scenery looks like it is in the US or Canada.

Might as well call the show, Criminal Minds, Miami.

To be honest, I found the story more offensive, The Thai people are some the most polite and friendly people you could ever hope to meet who have turned smiling into an art form , This episode gives the impression that they are unsociable and standoffish.
Then the idea that You could drive out into the Jungle and the first place you stop is the bad guys den, Totally unbelievable. I loved CM Suspect Behavior, And that got canned before the end of the first season. This show (based on the first episode) has not got a patch on CM Suspect Behavior.

To make a point they had the oranged robed buddhist monks in every scene, its like the good old days when they used to film London scenes in a hollywood studio. There were literary three english bobbies to every person on the street and every other vehicle was a red double decker bus.

Do you seriously expect a TV show to fly actors all around the world to make it look realistic?

reply

I spy did a pretty good job of it.

reply

It doesn't matter to me. I enjoyed the show.

Grands...Glad to see you come and glad to see you go

reply

I SPY actually did film overseas (Which is what got the show a 3-season commitment up front!) with some pick-up and studio scenes shot at Desilu Culver and Desilu Hollywood.

I get they have to film in california, but it was very obvious. Maybe that will doom the whole premise of the show aiming too high, and delivering something that is just mediocre.

I was expecting something more exotic, not a few flyovers of a foreign country, then BAM we are in california, in what looks like every NCIS or CSI or Criminal minds episode..!

reply

Yup. Alias also took place all over the world and was all filmed in L.A.

And Criminal Minds is all filmed n L.A. Despite taking place all over the country.

It's called budgeting and scheduling.

reply

Gary posted pictures from those countries

You can't be that naive.

If the show was shot at the real location it would be unaffordable. The cost of one episode would probably consume the entire seasons budget. I am guessing that the cost per episode is a few million dollars. But to would increase by 10 or 20 times that amount, also how many actors want to be away from their family months at a time. By doing it the way they do the actors can go home to their families after each days shooting
