Corden... Yay or nay?

I am an avid James Corden fan, there is not much he can't do. However reading the reviews and some of the other topics I'm getting the impression that the Americans aren't warming to him. Showing how stupid they really are.

I was really excited about him, thought he was the perfect choice. However I'm not enjoying a bit of it, despite his talent. I kind of want to say "he's trying too hard" but that doesn't really pinpoint what I feel. I certainly can't stand his shaggy band sidekick, where Corden's funny, he's flat. I stopped watching, but like any late show I'll check back in, as temperatures change.

NAY!

I have to say Nay. I've tried to enjoy it, but I agree that it seems to me like he is trying too hard. I just don't find him funny at all. And the singing! He does have a really good voice, but I don't enjoy the singing skits he does all the time. In fact, they really get on my nerves. I just don't think he is the right host for this show. The ensemble style interviews with the guests don't work either. Oh how I miss Craig Ferguson! This guy doesn't even come close to filling his shoes.

reply

Watching it for the first time tonight, because it follows Stephen Colbert's debut on The Late Show.

Nay on Corden.

Giddy pandering to his all-male panel of guests.

In general, late night talk shows rarely have women as guests, and that's getting very, very old.

Am I the only one who is sick of the hosts mainly having their personal friends on as guests? That was a big problem with Jon Stewart, especially toward the end.

Anyway, back to Corden:

Very, very lame skit with the pizza delivery man. A godawful thing that went on and on and on and was never funny.

So . . . after Colbert's stunning first show, Corden is a big disappointment.

Yep, a big nay also. The level of pandering is too much for my taste, and the sketch comedy is lame. Between Corden and Fallon, late night has become one giant kiss ass fest.

reply

So true. I used to like Fallon but I can't stand to watch his show. The only thing Corden did that I liked was singing in the car with Rod Stewart but even that went on too long.

reply

He's obnoxious and he needs to calm down. I feel like he's constantly shouting. I don't like Fallon as a host either.

But hey -- thanks so much for calling me stupid.

reply

Yay,

Love his style of hosting, he is naturally funny and has a great presence. Loved his opposites attract cover he did with paula abdul.

reply

Nay. I never expected him to be as good as Ferguson, but I didn't think he'd be this bad. I think part of it is bringing out both guests at the same time. It seems so awkward. He basically ends up having two different conversations with guests that have nothing to do with eachother and he cuts back and forth between the guests. Atleast if both guests were related in some way it could be a conversation involving all 3 of them.

I RESOUNDING *beep* NAY. GET THIS FAT *beep* OFF THE *beep* AIR! I FEEL LIKE *beep* THROWING UP EVERY TIME I SEE HIS GOD DAMN FACE!

I've really grown to like Corden and The Late Late Show. Having seen him on Broadway, I knew the guy was way talented. But late night TV host is very different from Broadway actor, so I was a little apprehensive for him. But I think he's grown into it and is doing a terrific job.

I was an every-night Letterman watcher, but since Dave retired I've pretty much given up late night TV except for Corden and occasionally Kimmel depending on his guests. Colbert is insufferable and Fallon plays beer pong with Meryl Streep. Not interested.

But lots of Carpool Karaoke-quality segments and his genuine enthusiasm when talking to his guests keep me watching Corden.
