Corden... Yay or nay?

I am an avid James Corden fan, there is not much he can't do. However reading the reviews and some of the other topics I'm getting the impression that the Americans aren't warming to him. Showing how stupid they really are.

reply

Nay just for the whole panel style interviews, prefer one on one

I really miss Craig, but I like the Corden show. They are completely different animals and just because one was a fan of one, he shouldn't hate the other.

OTOH, I hate Craig's game show.

Just watched the show with Yania Izmeal-I mean.... Idina Menzel and Kumail Nanjiani. He'll develop a following. People still have Craig on the mind.

reply

I kept watching because I love Reggie, but I have pretty much given up for now. Corden's pandering and desperate Fallon impression he has been repeating just isn't working. His scripted segues are hard to listen to now that he is beginning to settle in. He isn't naturally improvisationally funny nor witty, and as he gets more comfortable, he gets even less interesting to watch.

Too bad, because Corden has access to the Los Angeles guests that NBC pretty much just gave up on with their 6 nights a week of NYC Lorne Michaels shows. Good Luck, Reggie.

I didn't latch onto Craig until roughly the last four years of his run. I have to at least acknowledge James' all around stage talent based on his performance with Idina Menzel (Kumail played right along as the sad wall flower). All of the hosts rely heavily on their writing staffs to pull off their opening segments. When the writers went on strike a few years ago Jimmy Kimmel reminded me of a fish desperately flopping around on the floor after its bowl had been dropped and he's been on the air for over a decade. I tend to skip most opening segments in favor of an interesting guest.

reply

Nay, I switch to Seth after Letterman.

reply

I tried that last night and you're right, it's better.

reply

Nay! I liked him in Gavin and Stacy, Doctor Who...even Lesbian Vampire Killers, but he sucks as a talk show host. I don't like his take on things, or if it is the writers, they suck. I miss Craig Ferguson terribly. :-(

I think Cordon is a very talented guy. I just don't think so much of the show. It's okay though, that's 4 less hours of TV a week for me to buzz through on DVR.

May you receive all that Karma has to offer.

Nay. Not American either, but you can still call me stupid offhandedly if it makes you feel better.

I will say that he (Corden) seems very earnest, happy and hardworking (+ seems like a decent fellow), but that doesn't make me like his show. I can't stand it for more than 5 minutes. I wasn't a huge fan of Craig Ferguson either, but I kinda miss him (along with Letterman). I watch Conan online now.

Oh well, noones forcing me to watch it, just giving me thoughts on the matter guv'nor..

reply

I agree. I do like Colbert now at least. For awhile I couldn't watch any of the late night shows -- Conan is on at 8pm in LA so he's not really late night anymore.

I like Graham Norton's show on BBC America.

reply

People from the UK hate him as well.

Showing how stupid you are.

reply

Nay.

I am not a huge fan of talk shows and normally just tune in to catch a guest that I like. I tuned in to catch Mark Ruffalo.

The walk up to the stage feels incredibly awkward and the stars seemed to feel that way, too.

Don't the guests normally sit on the other side of the host? Just struck me as funny.

I want 1 on 1 interviews. Even if each person gets less than 10 minutes, it gives more focus to all of them. Corden latches on to certain guests and the others don't get to talk as much.

He needs to get more experience with leading the guests into talking. I felt there were some awkward pauses.

He laughed a few times - too loud and too long. No one else laughed with him.

One of the games was okay.

He seems like an interesting person, but because I am watching for the guests...there isn't enough to keep me entertained.
