Corden... Yay or nay?

I am an avid James Corden fan, there is not much he can't do. However reading the reviews and some of the other topics I'm getting the impression that the Americans aren't warming to him. Showing how stupid they really are.

I'm from the Uk and i think he's fantastic at this

If there is one thing I can't stand on the internet as of 2015, it's when someone from the UK has to play the superiority card, acting like Americans are complete, judgmental idiots. The only one around here showing "how stupid they really are" is you. What started off as what looked like a serious conversation about the show turned out to have a stupid, xenophobic comment about Americans.

My grandfather was from England, I have friends and colleagues from England. I watch UK television including the classic like Mr. Bean, Monty Python, and others. I enjoy the popular shows like Doctor Who and Orphan Black. I also happen to like James Corden so far. And guess what? I'm a natural born, US citizen. Not everyone bashes ideas and people from the UK just because they are from outside of the United States. Some of us have culture and background from the UK. In essence, you are insulting your own people. I also have a feeling that if anything, people from your side of the ocean are more biased against American television than we are against UK. When's the last time you heard of a UK television show having an American host? Cue the crickets.

This kind of stuff really irks me sometimes when I read post like this on the internet. Isn't the UK supposed be America's most trusted ally? We should appreciate our history and national friendship together, especially since the great world wars, and take an appreciate for the people and culture on both sides. Instead, people like you have to take the general populace for a complete joke, insulting our intelligence and respect for your culture. It is people like you that are holding the world back from becoming a better place.

I wouldn't be surprised if you are a typical troll of the internet, either, but this kind of crap is getting really tired on the internet and I'm getting fed up with seeing it. I'm not even sure why you would start such a conversation. Look at these boards. I don't see a single post being biased against James Corden's nationality from an American. But I do see someone from the UK being biased towards the US...

Kevin McHale presents Virtually Famous.

Joan Rivers had her own chat show for quite a long time in the UK and John Barrowman (Arrow & Desperate Housewives) is also a TV and radio presenter in the UK. We have also had two Australians that had chat shows (Clive James & Barry Humprhies).

Don't take it personally. It's just the national character in Britain to put people down. People in the US don't do it and find it offense, because it is offensive. But in the UK, they are all very vocal about how they hate everyone else, the English hate the Scots, Welsh and N. Irish. The people in southern England hate the people from the north, the people from the north hate the people from the south, the people from this county hate the people from that county, the people from this town hate the people from that town, the people from the west side of town hate the people from the east side of town etc etc etc. Some of it might be good natured, but it all goes over my head.

People in the US like everyone from every state, with a few jokes about Kentucky or New Jersey. But the jokes are so ridiculous that they can't be taken seriously.

So just ignore the comments.

reply

Thanks for saying that. And so true about Ky & NJ lol They actually are both beautiful states.

reply

No it isn't. Sorry to kill your fantasy. I have never read so much bollox. I hate you ;)

No seriously sometimes 'we' luv some 'banter', but don't on the whole hate others from other areas. A lot of Brits do however hate Corden, and despite the reaction on here he is probally liked more in the states. Of course he does have a hardcore following in the UK and most people that are indifferent like Gavin and Stacey even if they 'hate' him.

tbh J.C. has always been a bland talentless unfunny *beep* but that's just me. I've never seen his show or do I ever plan to

reply

Then your opinion is null and void. I'm open to all opinions but an uneducated one is worthless.

reply

Uninformed is a better word.

reply

Wasn't he in Into the Woods? Didn't get that casting either. He's very bland.

A BIG YEA! I'm American and I think James is great! Head and Shoulders above Craig Ferguson. James gives his all every night to give us a show that is fun and worth staying up for. When Craig Ferguson said he smelled a bit like biscuits (on LLS in March)Witty James said without missing a beat that his physical makeup is "90% biscuit, 5% bread, 5% cake." I think James is 100% delicious!

reply

You're effing kidding right? Head and Shoulders above Craig Ferguson? Which is why James Corden's show is rated a mere 6.6 whereas Craig Ferguson's show is rated 8.3 and Craig Ferguson is the only Talk Show host to ever win a peabody award for actually being a talk show host.

Watch a monologue of JC and then watch a monologue of CF and be honest with yourself about who is the natural and "Head and Shoulders" above whom.

It's like the kids today saying "Jimmy Fallon is the best talk show host to have ever lived" without even seeing Johnny Carson's shows or even knowing who he was.

reply

Jack, I effing kid you not. If I remember correctly Craig received the Peabody for his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, in the spring of 2009...I think. That was a wonderful interview and Craig surely deserved the award. But after that Craig slowly stopped trying and he allowed the show with his name on it go down hill fast. His monologues, which used to be engaging glimpses into his life experiences, adventures and opinions just became vulgar recounts of what he read on the internet that day. Once in a while he made an effort to entertain (the puppets were fun). He long ago quit doing skits like 'Murder, She Wrote'. Once he received his citizenship and married in 2008 it seemed he became bored and lost interest. Over time the show became gimmicky...hence the robot. It was a real shame the way he ran that show down his last 5 years. He just didn't want to be there anymore. He replaced wit with vulgarity, which we all know is no substitute for wit. He lost his charm with his guests and his interviews became boring even painful to watch. I don't miss him in the least. James Corden, on the other hand is a seasoned performer. A Tony award winner. He puts a lot of effort into whatever he does. Sometimes the material is weak but I'm sure he will only improve with time. James is fun to watch.

Frankly, late-night "talk shows" have developed a stupid game show mentality. I like Jimmy Kimmel's show but I truly can't wait for Stephen Colbert. Stephen will kick the arses of ALL the others and James will have a better lead in. Ratings are relative. Some people just don't know the difference between quality and crap.

Stay tuned. :)

I don't dislike Craig Ferguson. I watched his show for 9 years. I saw the interview with Tutu the night it aired. As a talk show host Ferguson peaked that night. I saw him with Colbert the other night. Aging badly and couldn't manage to get through his appearance without vulgarity. As for Corden, his talents are wasted on late-night TV.
