the movie was enjoyable overall. too much trite 'technology' shots on screen along with outlandish timeframes of activating communications.
however, pretty much everytime Vikander was on screen I just thought that she gave me no feeling that she had the chops to be in the position that she had in the movie. And her line near the end about 'these are my people, i understand them' about adapting the CIA to the Millenials..... too precious.
Hollywood used to do a better job of hiding casting couch careers... In the internet age, where everyone can speak their opinions in real time, it's harder to avoid the Elephant in the room. Which is... Vikander is a Weinstein girl...nothing at all special about her in screen presence, beauty or acting ability... Yet she keeps getting pushed as the new "it" girl...
Funny how you can't make the public believe it though no matter how many movies you set up an average actor or actress in...by comparison...Sylvester Stallone...not a beauty...not a great actor arguably...but yeah...his movies sold... because he had that ability to connect with the audience...
Vikander is a blank stare.. ...she's not a public favorite... Weinstein and his buds just keep pushing her out on the public hoping she'll stick...a big fail...another case in point... Bette Midler...or Streisand...complete opposite to this nonsense...not attractive but yet the public loved them...

I think a talented 20 something year old actress could work in that role but I agree Alicia was the weak link. They wanted to cast some hot chick instead of a good actress. Her acting belongs on the CW network not Bourne.
Even with the age issue? People I went to the movie with actually all agreed on that one thing - that she was far too young for them to believe she would even be considered for such a high position in the agency. That's not really to do with her acting but the script itself but casting her didn't help.
Hollywood does this all the time. 20-year-old model women are CIA Directors, Commanders of the most important space missions, the top fight expert and trainers in the world....no surprise.
I think it's more glaring in the light of previous casting (ie. Joan Allen). The role of Pamela Landy was great. She was tough and intelligent without being a bitch. I think Pam Landy is the standard everyone compares this role to and there really is no comparison.
Julia Stiles, at the same age, was cast in a junior role at the agency so that fit.
She was the classic feminist narrative character. How she treats her male colleagues, how she refers to older men as "the past", how she uses words like Empowered. This is obviously liberalism ruining everything by putting unrealistic characters on movies.
