Jason Chaffetz Admits House GOP Cut Funding For Embassy Security: ‘You Have To Prioritize Things’
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) acknowledged on Wednesday that House Republicans had consciously voted to reduce the funds allocated to the State Department for embassy security since winning the majority in 2010.
On Wednesday morning, CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien asked the Utah Republican if he had “voted to cut the funding for embassy security.”
“Absolutely,” Chaffetz said. “Look we have to make priorities and choices in this country. We have…15,000 contractors in Iraq. We have more than 6,000 contractors, a private army there, for President Obama, in Baghdad. And we’re talking about can we get two dozen or so people into Libya to help protect our forces. When you’re in tough economic times, you have to make difficult choices. You have to prioritize things.”
For the past two years, House Republicans have continued to deprioritize the security forces protecting State Department personnel around the world. In fiscal year 2011, lawmakers shaved $128 million off of the administration’s request for embassy security funding. House Republicans drained off even more funds in fiscal year 2012 — cutting back on the department’s request by $331 million.

Host country is responsible for protecting embassies. But how many soldiers would it have taken to prevent the deaths of 4 people? I know you're probably not a military strategist, but try and imagine over 120 terrorists are trying to overrun your compound with all manner of weapons. How do you keep the deaths to 4 or less and do a better job?

it was Charlene Lamb (Deputy Assistant Secretary for Security) that was the person in State most directly responsible for the lack of security! Hillary wasn't DIRECTLY responsible, but she was in charge, so everything eventually rests at her feet. She was trying to earn brownie points by keeping costs down, and sending people to Benghazi was expensive, and she didn't want to spend a lot of money hardening a facility that likely wouldn't be used for very long.
Why are you so insulting? It seems an unproductive way to communicate about things you care about.

She said the late ambassador had “a lot of respect” for the former Secretary of State.
The sister of the U.S. Ambassador killed during a terror attack while serving in Libya says that Congress’ continued interest in the 2012 incident is “purely for political reasons.”
“With the many issues in the current election, to use that incident—and to use Chris’s death as a political point—is not appropriate,” Anne Stevens, whose brother was Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, told The New Yorker in an interview published Wednesday. “I do not blame [then-Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton or [then-Secretary of Defense] Leon Panetta.”
“They were balancing security efforts at embassies and missions around the world,” she added. “And their staffs were doing their best to provide what they could with the resources they had.”
Clinton’s response to the 2012 attack in Benghazi, which left Stevens and three other Americans dead, has for years been the target of criticism. That’s despite several Republican-led probes largely exonerating her.
House Republicans on Tuesday released the findings of their latest investigation of the attack. The report, which took a special committee two years and $7 million to complete, also didn’t blame Clinton — but some of her rivals can’t seem to let it go.
Stevens praised Clinton in response to the incident and noted that her brother had “a lot of respect” for the former Secretary of State. Read her full interview with The New Yorker here.
Her comments echo previous pleas from her family.
“It would really be abhorrent to make this into a campaign issue,” Chris Stevens’ father, Jan, said in 2012 in response to then-Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Stevens died trying to protect no one. He was far from an alpha.

The Stevens family are very educated.Chris was an Ambassador with a Law and Masters degree.His father was a a California Assistant Attorney General,his mother a cellist with The Marin Symphony Orchestra and his sister is a Doctor.Being educated as they are they aren't easily fooled by Fox News and conservative media lies and Bull$hit like most republican voters are.

While I don't know all the facts BEFORE Benghazi, we now know she lied about not knowing it was terrorism, blaming that stupid YouTube video.
As far as her reason for lying, I can't read her mind, but since it was just before the '12 election, and "terrorism" would have had a material impact on her party's candidate, objectively speaking: (1) she certainly had motive, and (2) it looks really REALLY bad.
Knowing she knew the truth, and so manifestly mislead us for the week after, made me pretty upset watching the movie.
