Did they have to destroy Thor for us?

I could deal with him being a fat slob, as long as it was a 2 minute scene and when he wants to come back, he meditates and the fat disappears. That's what I was expecting. Instead we had a fat slob stumble his way through a movie, give up his hammer to Captain America, and then give up his kingdom he's meant to fight and die for so he can continue to get drunk and play playstation all day.

Shameful end to a great character.

I agree with your assessment. However I'll see you Thor, and raise you The incredible Hulk. I'm still reeling that we didn't get to see Hulk vs Thanos. At least we got Thor vs Thanos, and Thor killed him in the beginning.

I really hate that The MCU has basically relegated Thor and Hulk to being goofy comic relief. What a waste.

reply

You are missing the fact that both of them will continue after this movie. This was the Swansong of Steve and Tony. They will probably still get their moments.

reply

I'm not missing anything. When will Thanos be back???? Can they fix these characters in future films? Yes they can. However in this film they dropped the ball. We are talking about this movie. Not future movies that may or may not come.

reply

Why do you have to see Hulk and Thanos? He already lost to Thanos, and Thanos didn't use and Infinity Stone in the fight. This time Thanos had a sword. Why would he have come off any better? We saw Hulk ragdoll Loki and punt Ultron. How many times do you want to see basically the same thing repeated? They gave him character development instead.

reply

Dude stop being a troll. Why do we have to see Iron Man? Or why do we have to see Cap? or any of them? It's an Avengers movie. Exactly he already lost to Thanos, just as everybody lost to Thanos first time around. So he should not try again.

I didn't say I didn't enjoy Professor Hulk. Don't put words into my mouth. I simply said I wanted to see Hulk fight Thanos. As most fans of the Incredible Hulk wanted to see.Thanos went up against Cap, Thor, and Iron man 3 on 1. Why couldn't it have been a 4 on 1? Especially when hulk is your big gun.

As for "How many time do you want to basically the same thing repeated?" Take a moment and think about why this is a silly comment

reply

Iron Man lost to Thanos with 4 infinity stones.

But more importantly, this was the last appearance of Cap and Iron Man. Thor and Hulk both got nerfed so that they could shine. They also had to fit a Captain Marvel cameo at the end, and Scarlet Witch went up against him too. But that's not enough and you have to have a Hulk fight too. Even though the hulk already ragdolled Loki, Punted Ultron and had a one on one with Thanos in Infinity War(which he lost). Apparently the only thing that would satisfy you is a rematch which the Hulk wins....which would made Iron Man's sacrifice redundant.

The Hulk will continue in the MCU, and will have a chance for a grand finale of his own. But that won't satisfy you, because you want him to fight Thanos(again).

reply

Ok I'll try asking you this. If the final fight was simply Cap and Thor vs Thanos would Iron Man fans get pissed? You know they would. But why did we need Iron Man to fight Thanos when he already fought him and lost in Infinity Wars? Why do we need Iron Man anything when he's been the most overexposed character of all the Avengers? He had already has his own trilogy, had the most amount of screen time in all the avengers movies, had a supporting role in a Spiderman movie, and was the second lead in Cap's third film? Hulk on the other hand had a solo movie most people like to forget (not counting Ang Lee because it wasn't MCU), a guest spot in a Thor movie, and supporting roles in the Avengers movies. Due to legal reasons prob won't get another solo film for many many years.

And going in nobody knew it was last appearance of Tony Stark since RDJ was floating the idea of doing more films so stop using that as your arguing point.

reply

Hulk fans want to see the Hulk. Same as Thor fans want Thor. Not only do fans want to see them, they want to see their favorite characters in all their glory, not reduced to silly comic relief. If you can't grasp why Thor and Hulk fans are upset I'm done talking to you so don't even bother responding.

Iron Man/Cap fans don't have this problem because these characters get all the best material, which I totally understand. Even still doesn't mean you can't share the screen a little, especially in a 3 hour movie.

reply

If you got your way, every Avengers film would be the same and the rest of the audience would be bored. Tony and Cap had trilogies to have character development. Hulk has only turned up in the Avengers and Thor Ragnarok. Kevin Feige said they wanted to give him a character arc over 3 films instead. They can't do that if he is just "Hulk Smash" in every film. Trying to service every character with 20 plus heroes in it is impossible and would ruin the film. Drax and Groot had about 10 seconds on screen the whole film. What about people who like those characters? Black Widow and Hawkeye didn't get any action scenes either. Rocket had no action. Black Panther got to carry the INfinity Gaunlet for a few seconds. Hulk/banner wore the Infinity Gaunlet. Thor had a big fight scene with Thanos. But you are still complaining.

reply

^^You sir are a dunce. You are not listening to what I'm saying therefore this conversation is pointless, and will continue to go back and forth.

I'm all for character development and enjoyed seeing professor Hulk. I said that already. I said that already, you chose to ignore what I said. Just because Hulk rag dolled Loki in a previous film like you say, or threw Ultron, and fought Thanos already....so what? So now Hulk has done all he can do, and from here on out, nothing more for him because he rag dolled Loki 7 years ago. 7 years ago he rag dolled Loki so Hulk can't do anything more. You're saying be happy with what you got 7 years ago, and expect nothing more. Bull.

You see the Hulk can have character development (he should). However that doesn't mean he can't fight, and shouldn't fight. I wanted to see the Hulk fight, that fight could have been having Professor Hulk fight. Fans of the Hulk want to see this, not just me.

Tony fought Thanos in the last movie and lost so why have Tony fight him again? (I'll wait). Cap fought Thanos in the last movie and lost so why have Cap fight him again? (Again I'll wait). Thor fought....you see where I'm going. Since you didn't respond to any of my Iron Man critiques I can only assume you are an Iron Man fanboy therefore you've gotten everything you wanted because Tony has been the central focus of all the Avenger films. He was even a big focus of films that were not his own.

You say trying to focus a movie on 20 plus heroes is too much, which it is. I never said focus on 20 characters (your putting words into my mouth) The writers chose to focus on the original avengers team, plus a few more. Hulk is part of that original team hence, he should have gotten his due.

I've said all I need to say. You liked the film as is, fine. Guess what? Nobody can take that away from you. I liked the film too, but didn't like certain aspects of it, or how certain characters were shafted. My opinion, deal with it

reply

Thor fans want to see Thor rock and Hulk fans want to see Hulk kick ass. I totally get that. Fans of underutilised characters are disappointed.

What we're seeing here though goes way beyond disappointment. People are attributing the writers' decisions to some over-arching agenda to neuter white male characters. That's moving into conspiracy theory territory.

Personally I've never been that hyped about the Hulk, though the Ruffalo version is my favourite so far.

Thor I and II were disappointing to me but I loved Ragnarok and hope we get to see more of him in GotG3 or another solo film.

reply

I agree with you here. It was Cap and Tony's story. Having Thor rule New Asgard is pointless since Thor is going to space so we can have Ragnarok Thor again. New Asgard is just some tiny town in Norway. Valkyrie can handle it. Can't say for sure how Hulk will continue but the same goes for Barton and Ant-Man.

reply

Loved Endgame's Thor ... and his character arc with Hulk has been fascinating

This is what MCU does so well - humanizes even demi-Gods and makes them relatable for the audience. a Depressed Thor sulking with his video game buddies and guzzling down beer was absolutely shocking and yet seemed so reasonable at a human level

I like how the makers do not care too much about the integrity of these characters' comic book strengths, which, from what I have read about also varies from volume to volume. Keeping the characters grounded despite having insane super powers is a tough task but MCU does it brilliantly

reply

So shitty what they did to Thor's character here.

reply

Why even have characters like Hulk and Thor if you aren't going to even really use them for the epic conclusion? Next will be a movie with Silver Surfer but he won't shoot blasts or move at hyper speeds. And then Spiderman will only jump around and fight for a total of 6 minutes of his next movie. Utter bullshit.

reply

Hulk had his big moment in Avengers 1 when he smashed Loki, the main villain of the movie, like a ragdoll. Audiences in theaters all over the world went wild in that scene and nothing could ever really top that. He also had an epic battle in Age of Ultron with Tony's Hulkbuster armor. He also had lots of great scenes in Thor: Ragnarok

Are Hulk and Thor supposed to destroy every villain? They both played important roles in the movie, they just didn't do all of the ass-whooping. Iron Man got the final kill, as he should, being the star of the franchise and this being his farewell. Hulk and Thor will continue to appear in Avengers movies and get lots of cool scenes, but new characters also need to have their moments so that audiences can care about them

Honestly, if any of you idiot know-it-all fans were in charge of these films we would get shit like Suicide Squad or Justice League type movies every single time, because you don't actually know jack-shit about smart, strategic filmmaking

reply

>you idiot know-it-all fans

Right back at you asshole. This is supposed to be an Avengers movie. The entire team is supposed to get the opportunity to show off. Why even have a Thor or Hulk in the movie if they aren't going to be Hulk or Thor. Myself and millions of others are tuning in to these movies to watch them fight the bad guys and show just how incredibly powerful they can. To show how absolutely stupid your "logic" is, Tony has had a significant scene at the end in every movie? He's even already had sacrifice scenes. Same can be said about Captain America. They totally disrespected the Thor character. Just because it doesn't bother you doesn't mean it doesn't bother ALOT of other people.

reply

The entire team? That's like 50 fucking characters. They keep adding new characters every year, just now they took away a few. That's too many characters to be giving epic moments to, especially ones that have already had plenty of epic moments and will continue to have more in subsequent movies

Iron man and Captain America aren't coming back. This was the LAST TIME they will ever have a chance to shine. How fucking stupid are you that you don't understand such a simple concept?

There is a reason why this movie is making ridiculous amounts of money while you sit at home doing nothing. The creators know what they are doing and you have no idea what audiences want

reply

You just said there were 50 people officially part of the Avengers team in this movie and you're calling someone else stupid? Good god man you have your head firmly stuck up your ass. YES THE AVENGERS, THE ACTUAL TEAM, ALL 7 OF THEM, SHOULD HAVE EACH GOTTEN THEIR EPIC MOMENTS. Maybe if I say it louder your walnut sized brain will be able to process it. They've spent over a decade working towards this movie and they totally bushed off Hulk and Thor's characters.

reply

Yeah. I was expecting him to snap out of fat mode and get in shape again at will, or something like that. Instead it lasted the whole movie. I wanted the one-eyed, eye patched(I didn't even want him to get a replacement eye)badass and in his regular shape Thor from Ragnarok fighting Thanos. I didn't really give it too much thought throughout, but they took it too far.

reply

I thought it was great. It added poignancy inaccuracy to the film, not to mention a much-needed touch of humor.

reply

Yes, next let's humiliate and disparage and degrade Captain Marvel for an entire 3 hours. It'll be super "humorous".

reply

1) It was boring because Valkyrie had the exact same storyline in “Thor: Ragnarok” ... without the fat buffoonery.

2) I would have preferred if Thor had transformed into his “golden armour” from the comics for the final fight. It would have gone a long way towards making him look cooler.

3) Thor being a fat joke was Chris Hemsworth’s idea, according to him. Hemsworth wants to keep doing comedy and Marvel is happy to let him.

reply

And The Russo brothers wanted to make him fit again for the final battle but Chris Hemsworth convinced them not to do so hehe 😉

So if Chris is happy with that version of Thor I am too

reply

I thought Thor was the highlight of the film. Hilarious, similar to how he acted in Thor 3 . I laughed out loud.
