Even her haircut looked like your typical middle aged woman. And her makeup was bad. I think it may have been deliberate. But she is a feminist so perhaps it was her intention.
Not ugly at all, she could really scrub up well and pull off the monroe style glamour. In a way, she's a blank canvass for a skilled stylist and makeup artist. That's why I find her look so bad in this movie. She could be much more attractive and younger looking.
Never been pretty. They took a normal girl and gussied her up into a starlet. That trick only lasts so long. I'm a big fan of ScarJo but I always thought her sex symbol status was ludicrous. I have no idea how she landed in the A-List but her whole career should should have been quirky independent films where she started.
To me, that's much of her appeal. Underneath it all, she's basically a ordinary looking girl. Kirsten Dunst kinda has the same thing going for her but no one made her a sex symbol.
Because I prefer "the cute chick" over "the hawt chick". Also, Kirsten seems like a cool and chill person. Someone you can smoke a joint with and talk about the universe. The kind of person who feigns disgust when you burp after a beer only to down one herself and try to outburp me.
She sometimes looks like a hot, female version of Jesse Eisenberg... It's just her face type..
As she ages she's not going to look very good compared to some of the stunners who have aged well (Diand Lane being the prime example of aging gracefully)...
A lot of Scarlet's appeal was her youthfull softness, the fulll lips, hips and softness of her face and body... As she is middle aged and the current fashion of lean older women, she'll look more like Mr. Eisenbrrg... but hot...
People lose the youthful softness in their faces around age thirty, and that's when done structure begins to determine beauty, rather than youth. Diane Lane has the kind of bone structure that's allowed her to stay beautiful in maturity, and I don't think the same is true for Johanssen.
And it's not like Johanssen has grown up to be a great actress, either. I hope she's saved her movie money.
I see your point but I don't think she was in the movie to be a sex symbol. Granted she is but I think they want the female characters to be viewed as just other characters. I also think that since Black Widow has been on the run - along with Steve, Wanda and Sam - she probably hasn't had access to a lot of salons.
