So why is everyone acting like Dougie being a mute zombie is no big deal?

His wife seems to be fine pushing him along and dressing him while he stares off into space with drool coming outta his mouth, taking him to the bathroom and pointing his dick in the toilet to pee, she doesn't even question it. He goes to work and again none of his co workers really even question it, they just start pushing him along like his wife.

Shouldn't someone be suggesting he get some medical attention or call someone? Do they think this is normal behavior or nothing to be concerned about? No one is even asking "Hey whats wrong with you?" they just kinda look confused at first then brush it off and act as if its nothing.

The hooker with the great tits is the only person that has shown even a semblance of intelligence. She said he may have had a stroke then shoved him towards the casino. It's stupid but then again what isn't about Twin Peaks Redux?

reply

That bothers me as well, but apparently people at work think he's still recovering from the drunken weekend and isn't himself yet. They need more time to figure out something is seriously wrong with him.

As for wife, she said "this is one of your episodes again, eh?", so it's obvious something similar happened to him before and she is used to it by now.

BTW, have you noticed that his kid was behaving odd while sitting in the car? He was kinda numb, staring at one spot for a long time. I figure that's one of the consequences of being a son of simulacrum. Anyway, the wife has probably seen similar behavior a lot, from both of them.

reply

Perhaps it is just making a subtle point about how so many people have so little compassion for the suffering of another person, that they treat him that way instead of getting him to a hospital.

reply

The most important question IMHO, is why was Dougie seeing a hooker while he's married to Naomi Watts?

reply

Did you see the hookers perfect tits? Also show me the best looking woman in the world and I'll show you a guy tired of having sex with her.

reply

No offense, but what a ridiculous thing to say. Did you even see the scene when Jade was butt naked and tenderly spending time with Duge LV? That body, that voice, that sweet personality. How is that not an alternative to Watts' character's shrieking voice, naggy personality, chicken scrap body and soccer mom style?

reply

a better question is why is he in this trance mood? is because he's been sitting on a chair in the black lodge doing nothing for 25years..also do you think coffee is the cure?

reply

My guess is either shock of being in a real world after 25 years of sitting on a chair in the Black Lodge, or his brain was affected during the transport through the electrical socket.

Coffee could be the cure, but also hearing certain words. He reacted to the word "agent" and "case file"... it brought back memories of what he once was.

reply

He is reacting to several reminders of his past life. the cop's badge who brought him home. The statue of a gunfighter. The words 'agent' and 'case file'. the numeral 7.
it's being drawn out too long though and it's time to wake the fuck up.

reply

There were several instances when I thought this will jump-start him back into reality. No luck so far, but the clues keep building momentum. I forgot why is number 7 important to him?

reply

I can't remember the significance of 7 either, just noticed that he seemed fixated in it.
There s a lot I don't remember from the original series, and I never read the diary of laura palmer, and I think I only saw half of Fire Walk With Me.
So I don't know all the clues, I guess I should have rewatched everything to prepare for this new season!

reply

I rewatched the original series, but decided to skip watching Fire Walk With Me cause it didn't seem essential at the time and all the rewatching took a long time. But there was a character from the movie in the latest episode (Carl Rodd, the old guy) and I had no clue what's his backstory. If he's gonna play an important role in the rest of the series, I'll have to rewatch the movie as well (sigh... too much work)

reply

is that Harry Dean Stanton?
I have no idea what his purpose is, other than to witness the kid getting run over.

reply

Yeah that's him. I wanted to know if he's gonna be important in the rest of the series, so I checked in how many episodes he is. Just this one... so far so good per not rewatching Fire Walk With Me... lol

reply

I think Lynch might have added lots of bit parts for a lot of old characters just for the "hey that's so and so" factor, but then they don't play any more function in the plot. they are just sprinkled throughout the series but don't have any real importance.
And even a lot of new characters have small unimportant parts, but they are played by fairly big names because Lynch wanted to include as many friends and actors he likes.
For example, I don't think we will see Jennifer Jason Leigh's character again.

reply

Same reason you'd let a great jazz musician sit in at your jam session... he stole the episode imo. Amazing the empathy he could generate in a five to ten minute appearance especially at his age.

Paris, Texas is one of my favorite movies.

reply

You're really into jazz analogies.

reply

Yeah, I post on a lot of different sites so I'm sure I repeat myself... but the analogy still holds up I think.

reply

No worries, I'm just ragging you, hehe.

reply

I love Paris, Texas too. That movie is a heartbreaker.

reply

Maybe because it's a satire on Corporate America?

reply

It seems to me like an homage to Peter Sellers' excellent 1979 film "Being There".

Lynch

When he got zapped leaving the lodge it looked like he lost his marbles then

reply

This schtick is really annoying. Not liking it.

Something that I learned from studying literature in college is that an author can write about a character who is boring, but the character can never bore the reader. I admit that's hard to do, but the first rule of narrative in ANY medium is to engage the audience and keep them engaged. Lynch isn't doing that with this meandering crap, perhaps because he keeps getting away with it. I object.

I want to add that I do not object at all to Kyle MacLachlan'a acting. I think that he is wonderful! Within the context of doing what he is directed to do, and with which I do not agree, I find him sweet and engaging.

reply

At the current rate, I don't expect Cooper to be back until the last episode or next season.
