What in God's green earth did I just watch?

This movie was garbage across the board. It's not funny. It's not scary. It's over acted and goofy and silly but not a good silly. It didn't make sense. It ended badly but not soon enough. It's a long drawn out horrible movie that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I could see where someone being tortured would just have this movie playing over and over and they would be forced to watch it until they gave up the information. It was crap x 1,000,000,000. There wasn't even any good redeeming sex scenes in it. Please , for the love of all that is holy, delete all copies of this movie from the world.

hard disagree!

this movie is too long. i'll go along with you on that.

otherwise, it is an absolute treat on all levels from beginning to end. honestly, if you could analyze my neurons and produce a movie fine-tuned to be all the things that would make me happy, it would come out looking pretty much like this.

it's a love letter by the director/designer of everything to sirk, technicolor, a bit of 60s horror. & while she claims she was in no way influenced by russ meyer & seems to hate it whenever anyone compares the love witch to him...i think there's a bit of beyond the valley of the dolls in here too.

it's a very, very generous film. generous in its colours, in the effort that was put into it, and i love it.

I also noticed many Ennio Morricone themes from giallo films were used here. I thought it was great and if more new movies were like this one I’d definitely be watching them.

reply

it's been a few years since i watched the love witch, & at that time i probably hadn't seen as many morricone-scored movies as i have now. i definitely never made that connection, but maybe i will next time i watch it.

glad you dug it. if you can find it, anna biller's earlier film 'viva' is a lot of fun too, and has some similar feels in the way it recaptures a sort of technicolor feel. it's very groovy!

reply

I like Viva, but 'A Visit From the Incubus' was great. It's a visual treat.

reply

i liked that a lot too. i caught it when it was on the criterion channel a few years back. i'd like to watch it & viva again, but neither are out there in the streaming world right now, it seems. if/when her bluebeard movie gets made & released maybe they'll become more available again.

I also just read that the movie was shot on 35mm film. No wonder it looked so appealing. Absolutely wonderful.

reply

It's only 2 hours... that's the very shortest a movie should ever be. 3 hours would be perfect.

But, yeah, this one is garbage.

reply

Personally, I thought it was interesting and well made.

reply

What was interesting about it may I ask?

reply

I found the storyline and the main character interesting. I was invested in what was happening.

It’s impressive that they managed to accomplish what other modern movies fail at time and time again with creating a genuine and stunning 60’s aesthetic with the film style along with the clothes/makeup/hair. But it’s wasted on a sh!t screenplay and bad acting.

reply

Watching rn and I am really captivated by the lead actors performance

reply

It is the strangest movie I've ever seen.
