Plot Hole: No protein

Did anyone else notice that both Ben and Tom managed to survive for years at a campsite in the woods, yet all they ate was onions and grass? No meat with the stew they created. Not even rabbits. Can't survive that long without meat, and movie leaves us without explanation. Big time omission.

reply

They do have store-bought meat, actually watch the film you never watched, they go shopping when their food supply runs out. Also get off the internet and go back to elementary school if you really believe people cannot survive without eating animals, millions of people in the US right now do not eat meat or anything derived from animals and they were born before you and already outlived you by three times your age.

reply

Often times store bought meat is not truly meat because its processed, and its not really clear that meat would have fed them either. It would have made more sense if they had fished because of all the lakes in the area.

reply

you're retarded

reply

I've lived just fine for over three decades with no meat. I'm far from an anomaly too. Trust me, protein is not an issue.

reply

But you're only 30. Wait until you're 117, then you will be sorry.

reply

I'm over 30 as well. I've been meatless for over 30 years.

reply

Same here.....

reply

The op has no idea what vegetarian means

reply

Partial to vegetables, including egg products though and sometimes chicken or white meat like fish.

reply

There are plenty of people who have no animal proteins at all in their diets. Get over it.

reply

i feel sorry for your muscles (or lack thereof)

reply

I feel bad for anyone you're pushing nutritional information on. Muscle has nothing to do with meat. Check out "vegan bodybuilders" and you'll see.

reply

But you also have the support of a whole world of farming and logistics and fertilizers and expertise. Theoretically you are right, but the OP has more of a point I think.

reply

Feel free to flesh that out a bit.

reply

Protein is most certainly an issue, but it is true that you don't necessarily have to eat meat to get a complete protein.

reply

Lots of people eat no meat. They're all pasty and frail, with sad watery eyes.

reply

Sounds like Trump supporters.

reply

Are you suggesting that conservatives would be the vegans when compared to liberals? Do you remember election night? The only people I saw with sad watery eyes were the non trump supporters

reply

Trump supporters are all fat, well-fed

reply

You must have gone to the toilet when it showed that they were eating eggs, one of the most protein-rich foods on the planet. It even showed the dad buying eggs at the store. How did you miss it twice?

reply

Those were eggs he got from a Hawks nest.

reply

Exactly. Eggs all around.

reply

Eggs are full of cholesterol. Unless you make an omlet.

reply

say what?
Making an omelette removes cholesterol?

reply

It depends on whether there's cheese in the eggs.

reply

mmmmmmmmm....... cheese

reply

It depends on who you ask. A quick Google search for "eggs cholesterol" shows:

Eating eggs likely won't raise blood cholesterol levels.
Moderate egg intake may promote heart health.
Eating eggs can be safe for diabetics.
Nutrition for Today: Eggs are back on the 'good' list
Contrary to popular belief, eggs can actually help the cholesterol levels in your body.
The science is clear that up to 3 whole eggs per day are perfectly safe for healthy people. Summary Eggs consistently raise HDL (the “good”) cholesterol. For 70% of people, there is no increase in total or LDL cholesterol.

But also

Eggs raise your cholesterol, according to studies
Eating eggs regularly is linked to a higher risk of death
Eggs raise your risk of more than just heart disease
Egg consumption linked to higher risk of heart disease and death

It's one of those topics where science will tell you one thing one day and the contrary on the other.

reply

You can survive without meat, but contrary to what vegetarians and lunatic vegans will argue, you can't be as healthy as you can if you eat at least some meat. Humans evolved as omnivores, so we have the teeth, digestive systems, and metabolisms for meat eating as well as plant eating. Biologically, we are meant to eat meat, every bit as much as a bear or a coyote is.

reply

Wrong. Meat causes cancer and stroke according to the World Health Organisation. Whatever helps lunatics like you sleep at night though ey.

reply

Did you learn that at medical school? There is not such think as to link meat to cancers or stroke. That would mean that Islanders or Inuit people die all from cancers and stroke.
I am an MD and I can tell you there is no study that links cancer or stroke with meat. Obesity is liked to diabetes, heart disease. But obesity is mostly the result of carbohydrate abuse. Genetics is also a big factor.

reply

A good deal of that article deals with how dangerous it was for our ancestors to go out into the dangerous areas outside of caves to hunt the large game such as woolly mammoths, saber-tooth tigers, and other large mammals that have not existed for at least a hundred years. Hunting that kind of game itself was dangerous, therefore the consumption of red meat was not properly the cause of the decreased life expectancy of those individuals. The study had good intentions, but was fatally flawed by the failure to account for this variable.

reply

This sounds like more of an Opinion than something coming from a person who understands nutrition.
I eat tons of meat but I'm sure a lot of smart people are as healthy or healthier than I am by es-chewing it.

reply

They are shown doing eggs, mushrooms, so they didn't eat only grass.

reply

I think they also eat bugs, and maybe tree bark for the caffeine. Insects have protein because they are made of meat so maybe I'm wrong.

reply

I agree with the first guy, you don't need to eat meat. However, I will say that unless you have abundance in good vegetables, mushrooms, beans, berries, which I don't think they would have had it is not a healthy existence and nutritional deficiencies would result. This movie has so many other major problems - not the least of which it was just terrible.

reply

blue whales dont eat meat they weigh 300,000 lbs

reply

But they're naturally that big.

reply

that's what she said!
