B Grade "War Film" with terrible acting and shoestring budget!
I gave this 3 outa 10. Hopefully this film will trigger more kids into wanting to be solders and fight for our freedom.
shareWow, I really liked it. For anyone who liked "Lone Survivor"....they'll like this one. In fact, I think it was just a bit BETTER than Lone Survivor. And as a Clint fan, it was cool to see Scott Eastwood....looking, acting and even sounding exactly like his dad, circa the 70's. And the movie kinda had that feel, like those classic 70's war films, like Force 10 from Navarone and The Big Red One.
The action in the second half was so incredibly immersive I didn't want to look away for even a second, to grab my soda. It was relentless and gripping...and it gave me just a hint of the stress and exhaustion those men faced.
All in all, quite a good film. They didn't need to rely on huge names to get a quality movie made. In fact, I like what they did with the recognizable names they DID have.
This movie was a pleasant surprise.
Wholly agree...never heard of this film until it popped up on my radar today and couldn't have been more surprised. Sure there were some "battle bros" cliches in the way the soldiers interacted with each other, but the second half of the movie was almost TOO intense. The amount of fire that these guys were under was insane...and further reading on the colonel Romesha, Eastwood's character, reveals that he was all that the movie portrayed and more...the base would have been overrun and its occupants either killed or captured were it not for him.
But yeah, great movie with an exceedingly large budget for explosions...because goddang man...really looked like a war zone. No, not a AAA movie, but a movie well worth watching.
