Season 4. How good is it since Morgan is in it?

So far Im caught up on the show with from Seasons 1 to 3.

Havent watched Season 4 yet but just bought it recently.

Is Season 4 better since it has Morgan?

reply

Season 4 is a complete game-changer for this series, which was stale and formulaic since S1 and near unwatchable by S3 to me. S4 is probably one of my favorite seasons of any show in the past decade. It's not just Morgan that's the difference, it's a handful of wonderful new characters, the loss of other dull, uninteresting characters, and some fresh new plotlines and villains.

reply

well thats your opinion about Seasons 1 to 3.

I happen to like Seasons 1 to 3 last time i watched them was like a year and half ago when I got them for DVD.

the druggie son was the only person i couldnt stand since he kept wandering off all the time.

reply

Of course it's my opinion, that's why I said "to me." Watch and see if you agree.

reply

i dont have to watch Seasons 1-3 again to "agree" with you. I liked Seasons 1 through 3.

Im asking if Season 4 gets really good or not because of Morgan being in it

reply

Jeez, I thought it was a pretty thorough answer I gave, you're just really hung up on me not enjoying 1-3 as much as you. (Why is "agree" in quotations?)

I already answered your question. In my opinion.

reply

I both agree with you on FTWD, but on the rudeness and stupidity of urrutiap to not allow you the freedom of you own opinion without attacking you or insisting he is right.

reply

Aren't like all the characters from the first few episodes all dead now?

reply

Spoilers for OP, but yes, except one. (That's one of the reasons it's better now than it used to be, the bland, unlikeable characters are gone.)

reply

Yes!
More than one though ... Strand, Alisha, Daniel ... and I keep thinking that the mom is going to show up alive at some point ... maybe just hopeful because I like Kim Dickens a lot.

reply

I agree with you!

The show went from blegh, to WOW! just from watching the first episode of season 4!

I think the first 3 seasons are good in that they gave us Daniel and Alisha. Strand is good, but he can never be fully trusted and he shows time and time again that he considers himself "number 1" at the end of the day and will screw over anyone as long as it greatly benefits him. Its hard to like a character that continually screws over other characters you root for.

Morgan Jones (Lennie James) was needed and made this show so much better. Season 4, 5, and I just watched 6, have been getting better and better!

To the original poster, if you liked seasons 1-3 so much, be prepared to be blown away by how much you like the show from season 4 and onward! You'll have to restrain yourself from binge watching!

reply

Oh, forgot about Daniel somehow, make that 2 characters still alive from the first few episodes.

reply

Its understandable you forgetting, They dont touch on what happened to Daniel until season 5! But I was immensely happy when I saw he was alive! : )

But if you count Victor Strand, it would be three.

I had to edit, I looked it up and sure enough Daniel was alive at the end of season 3, but we do not see him again until season 5! Even I forgot he was absent completely from season 4!

reply

Yeah, that’s why I forgot!

I purposely didn’t include Strand though because he wasn’t in the “first few episodes” as the above poster asked about; he had one brief scene in the season 1 finale.

reply

I considered that, because Strand wasnt shown in season 1 until maybe fourth episode? He was in the detainment camp and met Nicholas there. He was important since he had that yacht and literally lead them right into season 2. So I would count him, personally.

Its interesting to think back at how many people from the first season are still in the show, and if you go by who is still here from the very first episode it comes down to only one!

The Walking Dead has a similar aspect, seeing how few people are still in that show from the first season or very first episode.

reply

Oh, I was under the impression Daniel was in the pilot, was he not until ep2? You're probably right; I've only seen each episode once.

I believe it was actually the final scene of the S1 finale where Strand is introduced, so I always kinda thought of him as a S2 character, even though he appears in one scene in S1, kinda like Michonne appearing in the last moments of S2 of TWD; I would always consider her a S3 character.

Yeah, I guess it's only Daryl and Carol left from TWD S1...no one left from the first episode, right?

reply

Daniel first appeared at the end of episode 2, he gave shelter to Travis, his son, and his ex-wife in his barber shop when the riots happened.

Strand had more than a fleeting scene, he was in episode 5 and 6 of season one. Theres only 6 episodes total for season one, which means he starred in 1/3 total of season one. Thats why I counted him, the season is short and he has enough screen time.

Im assuming Rick Grimes is alive somewhere but yes hes not in these past couple of seasons! And Morgan Jones was from the pilot episode of the Walking Dead, but now he's in a different series. I still count him because he has survived this long from the very first episode! Daryl and Carol were not in the pilot episode! They didnt show up until episode 3!

If you wanna get real technical, no one from the pilot episode of the Walking Dead is still on the Walking Dead show xD

reply

I thought Daniel was the neighbor to the mother .. Kim Dickens ... who I really like is just about anything. But it has been so long and I did not really like FTWD S1-3.

reply

No, he was just a barbershop owner, who had an apartment above his barbershop, that gave Travis shelter when all heck broke loose during the first riots.

Daniel and his family followed Travis as they had strength in numbers and new they needed to get out of the city.

They were lucky they met Daniel as we later find out he is a bad@ss that gets things done!

I agree, seasons 1-3 are the weaker seasons, but they do set up a few important characters later into the current seasons. If you skip the first three seasons, and jump into season 4 you will miss out on discovering Daniels backstory as a former "Bruiser" General for a Dictator in South America. And you wouldnt see Alishas development of character. Also Strands constant turmoil of trying not to be the anti-hero but constantly reverting to his seditious ways to come out a winner.

reply

Oh yeah ... that's right. Thanks. I am not suggesting anyone watch or not watch anything, just saying I really did not like S1-3.

reply

Morgan Jones (Lennie James) not only made FTWD better, but he rescued the irritating character of Morgan on TWD and brought new life to the character. It was really wonderful, and John Dorie too was a great character, with June as well.

reply

I was frustrated how Morgan in the Walking Dead was trying so hard to be pacifist, because he was one of the greatest fighters on the show!

I agree that Morgan Jones character arc improves during his time in Fear The Walking Dead.

I also enjoyed that Dwight (the guy with the burned face who worked for Negan reluctantly) shows up and his arc becomes more fulfilled! He finds his wife again and they didnt string that out too long either. : )

reply

Yeah ... the Dwight arc was really good ... which is why to me all the failings of the show are so disappointing.

reply

i couldn't get thru much of it, even when one of my favorite actors, garret dilahunt, joined the cast, i could only get thru a few episodes and bailed,
fuck this show

reply

I think Season 4 and 5 are the best seasons, in fact the only seasons that are really good. The Nick character and his weirdo shenanigan's were so annoying in the first seasons, it was such a relief to have Morgan ... and John Dorie show up and kind of focus the show I really started liking it at that point. After that ... I am not really happy with the way the show has gone, and now Dillahunt has left the show. But those seasons are the best in my opinion.

reply

I hated to see that after all that happened, Nicholas still reverted to being a druggie and an addict when the opportunity to do drugs arose. Theres even a scene in season 3 where Madison (the mom) sees Nicholas and you can tell by the look on her face that she knows hes high. But she doesnt lecture him, or even mention it. She just looks at him with this look of "this is who my son is and will never change". She is pretty good actress, but Morgan Jones was a better leader of the group as a character than Madison was.

I actually like how the show is no longer focused on Virginias group coercing everyone to join her, Im happy they didnt string that along too much! And I felt heart broken when Dillahunt left the show. So I understand that. But I did also like how season 6 ended and it upped the ante of danger in this world by quite a lot!!!!

reply

The whole submarine and cult of the death thing ... I really hated that and I don't think it is reasonable.

reply

I hope these spoiler tags Im using is actually working xD

Did you find it satisfying to see Dakota burn up into a stature of smoldering ash during the nuclear explosion? I know I did! She was a miniature psycho!

reply

Haha, reading through this I'm reminded of how I just cringe every time I saw her or her mom on the screen ... they were both such nasty little villains.

reply

If you enjoyed Fear the Walking Dead and thought it got better and better from Season 1-3 (like me)… Season 4 is simply awful.

The pacing, cinematography, characterization and tone was rebooted to be almost identical to The Walking Dead (at times it feels like Z Nation). There is a big time jump after Season 3. They also kill off most of the remaining FTWD characters.

I stopped watching around this point, even though I still think Strand is the most interesting person in The Walking Dead universe.

reply

I was lukewarm on it until the halfway point of Season 2, where it finally gets a lot more interesting. Then comes Season 3, which IMO, was the best one & which I liked more than the then current season of TWD.

But then comes Season 4 & the revamping of the show for the character of Morgan, plus the fact that they didn't really resolve the loose ends of S03. Big mistake, & I struggled to finish the season.

Season 5 I lost interest half way through & gave up. S06 I watched the first episode & once again gave up.

reply

I felt exactly the same as you: the show got interesting in Season 2, perfected its formula in Season 3 and then tossed everything out of the window in Season 4 to align with ‘The Walking Dead’.

It’s as if ‘Black Summer’ reverted to ‘Z Nation’ - that’s what the gear shift in tones felt like.

reply

That's when I started liking the show. I was so sick of that loser drug addict son ... Morgan's character really came alive on FTWD in a way he didn't in the original show. But also John Dorie's character is so good too, and others. I think it faltered after that, but it's still worth watching, but it's gotten kind of silly.
