The one thing that bugs me about these types of shows....

I LOVE watching the "impact" moment where the event happens. The transition of the world we know breaking down (transformers exploding, military jets, public service warnings, etc). It's just so intense. But then....and almost always...."xx years later"....and we're back into your standard dystopic tribalism (again). I hope this show has something new to offer on this aspect because I feel like I've seen it before.

Case in point: War of the Worlds (Spielberg version). The whole move was about the transition - and it was intense as hell. But I guess this show lives in the aftermath. Same thing with "The Leftovers". It took several seasons to show the full break down of society which made me appreciate it more. Still excited. I just hope it's not another dime-a-dozen zombie show.

It's actually why I really enjoyed World War Z. I never read the book, but from the movie, it was nice to see a post apocalyptic film at that edge, where the world is fighting back.

As for this show, you may not get what you're looking for. If it's anything like the video game, it really is this character drama set in that standard dystopic tribalism. And hopefully it doesn't do to the source material what walking dead did to its own.

The way you speak of it it sounds a bit like “The 100”. Great show, but I’ve already seen it.

It's identical to that... except with zombies (or vegetable zombies).

The book World War Z is just a bunch of separate stories without any main character. it has little in common with the movie, they only bought the name.

Try Black Summer on netflix. It’s a zombie show but based entirely on early days of the apocalypse. Or, All of Us are Dead on netflix. Great zombie show set in high school at the onset.

I love that show.
There is a second season to "To The Lake", but because it's Russian it can't be shown to us - we might turn into commies or something.

I was surprised to find last night (on IMDB) that there is a second season that's not on netflix and aired in April 2022 ...
Just found online 7 episodes of the seconds season. Apparently it has 8 ... will watch it tonight :D

The first season is Russian as well and it was shown to us so your claim is a bit weird :D.

The first season is already out there and very popular - they don't dare remove it, but that doesn't mean they can't censor the second season.

Yes, 100% agree. That is why Greenland (2020) was my favorite EOTW film in recent years. The whole film is about the “impact moment” when life as we know it comes to an end. Here are some other films/scenes that capture the breakdown of normal into apocalyptic:

Arrival (2016) - the first scene in the university classroom when all the students’ phones starting buzzing and one asks the professor to turn on a tv. Chilling.

A Handmaid’s Tale - the flashback scenes when they were trying to go about normal life but violent mobs and strange new laws stopped them in their tracks.

World War Z (2013) - stuck in a traffic jam in the middle of Philadelphia, then cops on motorcycles start charging through…

War of the Worlds - the crazy lightening storm, then Cruise’s character goes downtown to check out what is happening, then all hell breaks lose..

Good list. You might want to check out The Leftovers (TV). It's about a Rapture style event.

To me its all about the aftermath and how people would survive in the new world.

Trouble is theses days there are usually zombies involved, which takes the reality out of it.
