It kinda bombed huh?
Seems like it. Hey Spielberg, get back to aliens and Indiana Jones.
shareKind of bombed? It bombed a great deal, and it's not doing at all well in the Box office, either. I saw a program on TV not that long ago that pointed out the comparisons between Spielberg's reboot/remake of the film version of West Side Story, and the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story, which, along with the stuff about Ansel Elgort, stiffened my resolve to take a hard pass on the new 'West Side Story"--inotherwords, to vote my pocketbook, and not go to see it, at all.
shareYeah my Mom saw it and she decried the changes from the original, she didnt like it.
shareMy mom saw it and she didn't "decry" anything about the new one.
shareHi, SteveG. I think that there are a lot of people out there who agree with your mom, myself, and a good amount of other people who decried the reboot/remake of the film version of West Side Story.
shareI never saw them cause I dont like musicals, except maybe Grease, but yeah apparently there were changes made alot of ppl didnt like. Hopefully Spielberg can apply his talents where they are best suited for my tastes, aliens and Indy. 😊
shareI tend to agree with your mom in that respect, because I saw parts of the new film version of West Side Story, didn't care for what I saw, and have decided to take a hard pass on Spielberg's reboot/remake of the film West Side Story.
shareI don't think it's making too much money at all. When I went to see it, it was already down to just 1 showing per day. And even that showing had only about 20 people in it. I think it bombed.
shareIt's made about 40 million so far. It might get to 50 or 60 million but how much more I don't know. In any case, I don't think it will match its 100 million budget, let alone any other costs. By way of contrast, Cats ended up with about 75 million, but probably cost a bit less than WSS.
shareAnd we all know how well it went for Cats. There just wasn't a market for WWS.
shareIt's creeped up to 53 million. It might end up about the same as Cats did, at around 70-75 million.
sharePerhaps there wasn't really a market for a reboot/remake of the film version of West Side Story.
shareI didn't even like and finish the original, why should I watch some woke and cgi enhanced remake...
shareIt's to each their own, pjl69. I'm a devout fan of the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story (It's my all time favorite movie, hands down.), However, for a number of reasons that I've posted on another thread on this website, I will not be seeing the reboot/remake of the film version of West Side Story.
The 60th Anniversary screening of the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story played at a theatre here in Boston, and in other select movie theatres throughout the United States on Sunday, November 28th, and on Wednesday, December 1st. I went to seen both evening screenings of it, once with friends, and the other by myself. It was a beautiful print, absolutely stellar, with no scratches or whatever, and a stellar sound track, and it looked absolutely beautiful on a great big, wide screen, in a real movie theatre, with the lights down low. It was a real treat, especially after not having gone to a movie theatre for so long.
