Hardy, a good or poor actor?

Although I believed they were 2 different actors, so playing twins worked to that extent, I felt the performances were really different. As Reggie, he acted very well, as Ron he was awful, so over the top it was comical. Had he just played that role I would have said he is a poor actor. And according to this film, older brother Charlie never existed! I was looking at my watch after 30 minutes and regularly thereafter. A terrible film.

I thought he carried this film and played both roles well. Was entertaining to watch him as both brothers.

It's a poor question. Hardy is a brilliant and great actor. One of the best today. Anyone who think he's mediocre or lower doesn't know what they're talking about and can go jump off a tall building. That's all there is to it. Even a quiet person in The Drop, there was a lot of personality there. Haven't seen Legend, but I don't doubt it's an amazing performance.

Anyone doubting his brilliance might give Bronson a watch before he judges. He surely displays often certain habits, as most actors, but he's able to totally transform.
If demanded. Bronson was the most amazing piece of acting i've seen, Oscar snubbed and criminally undervalued.

Also, what he's able to do with his voice is extremely rare to find, comparing

Lawless, This Means War, Bronson, RocknRolla ..

I can't think of any actor coming close to this, he's in fact one of his generations very finest, for me topps.

He was suppose to be over the top and comical that's what they were aiming for!!

Hardy is a sub par actor. Very much over rated and now typecast into stupid tough guy roles where he gives wooden one dimensional performances.

Look at him in Mad Max. Utterly forgettable.

reply

Mad Max he was forgettable in. But he's a bit overrated. His performances in Bronson, Revenant, Locke and few others have proven his range as an actor.

Agreed.
He's extremely attractive and good looking (which gets you a long way) but I happen to think he's a very poor actor. He overacts and over plays every role I've ever seen him in.
Fascinating exercise therefore to see him play both twins.
Having watched the film though, in my view his approach to it was immediately clear.
He played one twin as himself (Reg) and "acted" the other one (Ron).

Reggie was very believable, because I don't believe he really attempted to act at all. He just dressed the part and played it straight as himself.

Ronnie however, was the richer character with more for the actor to get his teeth into, so he "acted" that one, and true to form overplayed it to the point of ridiculous parody.

It struck me about 20 minutes in that his portrayal of Ronnie was a bit like a Steve Coogan impersonation. The longer I watched, the more apt it seemed. In fact, I'd be fascinated to see a properly talented character mimic like Coogan take on the role(s) of the twins. His looks aren't that dissimilar and he is insightful and talented enough (IMO) to do something really special with them. He doesn't have the Hollywood heart-throb factor though, which is clearly what the film was really about.

With all that being said, I did enjoy the film though.
Not least for that beautiful green Lincoln continental running the fat gangster whites :) and the beautiful and exceptionally talented Duffy.

It was a great looking film for sure. Not sure what it showed us which we didn't already know though.

Go on Stanley, stick one in Jane Russell & win a goldfish.

I do do wrong Ron, I do do wrong.

Good. Amazing, in fact. Give The Revenant a go. He's one of the top stars in Hollywood for a good reason and deserves his Oscar.

Well i think he is one of the better actors around these days, also i think he is only one of the only few actors who can really be intimidating on screen and you almost get intimidated yourself.. Dont know how to explain it better, since english and my mother tongue..

The film had a bit of a strange vibe tough, but i liked it quite a lot.
