Hardy, a good or poor actor?

Although I believed they were 2 different actors, so playing twins worked to that extent, I felt the performances were really different. As Reggie, he acted very well, as Ron he was awful, so over the top it was comical. Had he just played that role I would have said he is a poor actor. And according to this film, older brother Charlie never existed! I was looking at my watch after 30 minutes and regularly thereafter. A terrible film.

Very good actor.

Excellent actor. One of the most gifted, versatile actors we have today. Any doubters need to watch where it all began for us with Bronson even though he was around in bit parts for years. This guy can do anything and has through the years. Quite often he is one of the best things about the films he appears in.

Nothing is as it seems so I wouldn't judge by what you think you see.

Well spoken!

IMO it actually all started in Stuart: A Life Backwards.

I pay no mind to the derogatory comments made about this actors work until and unless these detractors have seen Hardy in that role.

Absolutely astonishing performance and NOTHING like anything he's done before or since.

A pretty damn good one.

I think he is a good actor, but in this film the way the characters were written did not help. I admit I know little about the real-life characters, but the way Ronnie acted was so completely over the top that at times he appeared comical. I understand the brothers were supposed to be different, but in the film, Ronnie was so obviously insane that it appeared a miracle that he was not in serious trouble much, much earlier. I do not find him a believable character. There was much greater restraint and depth in the Reggie character.

Exactly my thoughts. Hardy's version of playing twins seems to be "be Tom Hardy" for one twin and "be constipated" for the other twin.

I feel in general that the guy is at his best when he plays a supporting role, but when the movie focuses on him things can go very wrong.
In other words, he's a character actor; not a leading man.

It's also telling that for a dual role that should have garnered awards and recognition, the movie got lackluster reviews and his portrayal has been mostly ignored. Even the SAG passed him.

If I hadn't seen Hardy in the fabulous "Bronson" or "Warrior", I couldn't honestly say he was much of an actor. All his other stuff has been very mediocre. (not seen The Revenant yet).
Also, IMDb call his role in Inception his breakthrough. LOL. Inception was pants. His role in Bronson made him.

I thought Ronnie was an awesome character. When he was giving the death stare to the bar maid during the line up; what other actor alive could look so scary and psychotic?

Tom Hardy's a great actor.
