Moana seems to be a great improvement from most Disney princesses.

Usually it's all about what they want and what makes them happy.

Moana does want things too. She does also have dreams. She longs for adventure out in the ocean. But she also understands her responsibility to her people. She finds a way to save them and her home and she does that by going on this journey.

Point I'm trying to make is she's not motivated by her own selfish pursuits or interests. Unlike a certain mermaid who will remain nameless.

Pocahontas could've also be put in the same line; She wants to follow her heart and follow her dreams, yet she doesn't want to dismiss what's best for her people.

But I agree about your statements about Moana.

Hmmm let's see...

Belle - Makes sacrifices to save her father

Anna - Makes sacrifices to save her sister

Mulan - Save the entire fucking nation of China

So no, Moana is not the first of that kind.

You're really not fair towards Ariel.
Even if she has her own pursuits and interests, I don't see her as selfish since she didn't know that her actions could hurt anybody else.
