Is it worth seeing in IMAX 3D?

Me and my friends were planning to catch Everest in IMAX 3D this weekend, but it seems that The Walk will have taken over the IMAX screen in our local cinema by then. We still kinda want to watch something in IMAX 3D though. For those who have seen it in this format, is it worth the extra expense?

reply

Definitely YES! The views are spectacular and it's like you are right there. It's worth paying extra money for.

Yes, it is well worth the extra money to view it in IMAX 3D if you have the opportunity to do so.

I watch 2 or 3 films a year in IMAX 3D, primarily because of the nearly one-hour drive to the nearest real IMAX theater. RPX and and other 3D screens are much smaller than the genuine original IMAX screens, though there are definitely screens which are now being billed as "IMAX" that are also not of the same monstrous size as the original IMAX format. These smaller so-called IMAX screens, along with others such as RPX, are often derisively referred to as "LieMax".

Well, back to the film. A few movies do benefit from the IMAX screen size — and The Walk is truly a testament to this statement. Gravity was another example of the IMAX format providing a thoroughly more immersive experience.

Probably the best IMAX 3D I have seen all year.! Pretty incredible, especially visually

Yes, if it's still showing in your area. I thought it was an excellent use of 3D; not just for the straight-down aspects, but for the depth of field in the scenic shots of the skyline and the opposite tower. Very much worth the higher ticket price. I was disappointed that the theater was nearly empty, though.

What a beautiful movie, beautiful story. It sounds like it would be boring, a guy walking a wire. But the writer, director, cast are all excellent. I saw it in 3D IMAX, it was worth the money, and I never felt sick or dizzy.

Yes it is absolutely worth seeing in 3D, and I am vehemently, staunchly opposed to 3D as I feel its a overpriced money making gimmick but for something as unique as this experience, NO. It puts you right in the movie and you feel what it was like. Utterly terrifying!!

Yes, though I think it's leaving IMAX starting tonight or by tomorrow, and if you can catch it in IMAX with laser (I think San Francisco's Metreon is the last IMAX-with-laser showing at 4:40PM, in case you happen to be standing right outside there), all the better.

I'm generally not a fan of 3D, usually would wish I saw the same movie in 2D because I don't feel it's worth the price and the distraction of wearing 3D glasses, but of all stories that should be told in 3D, this is surely one of them. It's a fun movie, but beautiful and moving, too, and a great tribute to the Twin Towers.
