A Russian sleeper cell that speak with a Russian accent...

So a Russian spy "family" that had years of training (the adults at least) and spent years undercover in the US with perfect American accents choose between speaking in Russian and English with a Russian accent...OK. Makes no sense.

It’s laughable

reply

This is done for such obvious reasons and is hardly unique to this movie.

If Schindler's List gets away with it, Black Widow certainly does too.

reply

I know why it's done. Because Americans are lazy and don't like subtitles/can't read.

reply

Yeah, and the accent?

reply

It's an unnecessary detail that wouldn't provide anything to the movie. For what, a sense of realism? This movie requires the suspension of disbelief in so many other ways already. I don't see how adding subtitles would improve the film.

Douchebagsayswhat?

Triggered?

Douchebagsayswhat?

reply

Ah. I see you are of limited intellect. Perhaps one day a scientist will do a research paper on you.

reply

Douchebagsayswhat?

reply

No, that isn't why it's done.

reply

...you think?

reply

While it is certainly true that the majority of Americans don't like subtitles, that is obviously not the reason why the characters played by Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour and Rachel Weisz don't speak Russian to each other, even though they are all Russians - it's because it's an American movie with English-speaking movie stars, not a Russian movie with Russian actors. It would be absurd to make the stars of the movie speak Russian (with what would certainly be poor accents) just for the benefit of authenticity, and it would be even more absurd to hire unknown Russian actors for all the main parts.

reply

Yeah, they had perfect accents in Ohio flashback scene but then lost all that skill rofl!

reply

They didn't lose that skill, they just didn't feel the need to make the effort anymore, obviously.

reply

Only the wife did. The husband had a Russian accent.

reply

Good catch. Didn't even occur to me.

reply

Uh, they spoke in normal English when they were in Ohio.

There's no reason for them to do so afterwards.

reply

What you mean is, there is no reason for them to speak English with a Russian accent after they leave Ohio.

reply

No, that's not what I meant.

reply

Well then I don't think you fully understand the point I'm making...

reply

Marvel has always been inconsistent with accents
