Feeling bummed out about the MCU

After a disappointing finale to Wandavision, and a disappointing everything in TFAWS, Loki started off promising and has disappointed beyond belief after the second episode. The early trailers for Black Widow looked good, but from everything I have heard it seems like the film is a big disappointment. Shang Chi, just doesn't look good, the Eternals looked boring. What are the chances that Ms Marvel does not turn out to be a turd given that it has been written by Bishka K. Ali? Silm at best. I'm really can't picture Lady Hawkeye being a masterpiece either. After a 2 year wait, it looks like we are going to have to wait another year for something possibly decent to come out of Marvel studios and in the meantime just wade through the shit. Spdier-man Far from home looks like the best bet. I'm not even sure about the Doctor Strange movie anymore, given that it is written by the guy who wrote Loki. And if rumours of a "diverse" Fantastic 4 turn out to be true, I don't see any light on the horizon.

Ok, you won me over. My faith in restores in the power of Scarjo's butt.

reply

Yes you should just imagine the pinnacle level of both having both Scarlett and Florence bootiness in a movie together.

reply

Awesome!

reply

That was kinda disappointing.

ScarJo is overrated. There I said it lol

Back in the day, it was Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer & co. Nowadays it's ScarJo. IMO Scarlett vs (a young) Cindy is not even a comparison!?

wake up , its all shit

That's the problem with putting out a series of lackluster if not outright bad content in a series/franchise. The viewer starts to think that maybe it's all been crap all along. That's what happens when you dilute a brand. It destroys it. A once celebrated film eventually starts being seen in ways like, "this is where the rot started". And it all just unravels from there. Fans become more interested in deconstructing and analyzing the content than enjoying the show. All because the studio lobbed out a few lazy cash grabs.

reply

You said it, TandyMan. These last few 'efforts' for Marvel have been a crapshow. I thought WandaVision was pretty good, FAWS was atrocious, and I turned off Loki after episode 2. I know I'm not alone now. So now I go to boards for the first Avengers movie and people are calling it mediocre now. I mean, that movie blew everyone's minds when it came out and now it's average?

I went to see every Marvel movie in the theater back in the day - it was an event for me. I highly doubt I'll see anything in this phase except Spider-Man. I love the old stuff, but like Star Wars, it's become really bland and tarnished.

reply

I am with you. I didn’t even care for the last Spider-man very much. The Loki series was another nail in the coffin, stopped watching. Don’t really care about anything on the upcoming release schedule except FF. I am just not into this multiverse stuff. I am interested though in seeing Sam Raimi’s Dr Strange film. Who knows maybe he can get me interested again.

Okay, marvel did a great service to it's fans by spending 20+ movies to build a universe. The last time something that ambitious was done was with the Lord of the Rings. They only did it with three movies but one shoot.

These are rare occasions that aren't easily reproduced. Marvel Fans should be happy that they got to experience this. Sure, the future movies look kinda lame, but a lot of the earlier marvel movies really sucked. But the end was really satisfying regardless of movies like Iron Man 2 or the hulk movie. Don't put too much pressure on a big success. This would be the hardest act to follow.

P.s. I don't like Super Hero movies, but I respect the Hell out of the success Marvel brought to it's fans.

reply

The early movies only sucked compared with what came afterwards. They were quite good for the time they were made. Lord of the Rings is a good example. From what I hear it's going to be diversified and sexed up on Amazon Prime. Basically destroying everything that people love about it. Star Trek has been ruined. Star Wars was never very good, but apparently people who liked it were displeased by the wokification. Same thing happened with Doctor Who. The MCU and Game of Thrones were the two things that made life worth living over the last 10 years. Game of Thrones ended horribly. Not mainly due to wokeness, rather just shit writers. I don't see anything coming along to fill the void, and if it does, who knows how long it will last before the cancer of our modern age eats it and shits it out. That's what these people do, take things that talented people have made, try to use it as their personal propaganda vehicle, ruining it in the process so no one actually cares anymore, and move on to the next thing that creative white men made, rinse and repeat.

PS. cannot WAIT for the delights of seeing the first gay black hobbit!! The first elvish lesbian kiss on screen? What PROGRESS!! Also Sauron absolutely has to be turned into a bludgeoning metaphor for the patriarchy, or I am just not watching.

reply

I'm glad you're so exited to watch woke movies so you can complain about the wokeness.

I don't waste my money on follow ups to franchises. After Lord of the Rings was done, I didn't watch the hobbit because I knew the original films weren't going to be surpassed.

After Attack of the Clones, I stopped caring about Star Wars because they could never be as good as the original trilogy.

You know why they keep putting out woke material in franchises?

Because people like you aren't the market yet you'll keep watching. Just let it go and enjoy what you like. Too many people are focused on politics and forgetting film. Don't be a tool of the Hollywood studio politics. Just be a movie fan of what you like and promote it.

reply

"You know why they keep putting out woke material in franchises?"

You didn't actually answer your question. What is there to gain from it from a business or storytelling perspective? People will continue watching up to a point because they have spent years investing in the characters and will give the benefit of the doubt, up to a point. I stopped watching Game of Thrones mid-way through the last season, and will never be interested in watching anything Game of Thrones related that comes out in the future. I have never watched an episode of Star Trek discovery, past the first 30 minutes of one episode, because it sucked. I haven't seen Attack of the Cones or Revenge of the Sith to this day, because the Phantom Menace sucked and I had no further interest in the story. I also haven't seen The Last Jedi or The Rise of Sikywalker for the same reason.
I did watch both entire seasons of the Mandalorian because it had good reviews, and the first episode hooked me in, and the rest kept my interest.
Your attitude that sequels to good things can never be as good as the original is just a statement about your negative attitude. There is no reason that sequels can't be as good as or surpass their predecessors. Infinity War is a prime example of that. Everyone just takes the past successes of Marvel for granted at this point, but no one expected an Avengers sequel to be able to even match, never mind surpass the original. And it's entirely possible a subsequent MCU movie could surpass it. Difficult? yes. But I wait to actually see what is made, I don't write it off without having seen anything. However if the MCU looks like it is headed consistently in a downward trajectory, I will lose interest. If that happens because the story just burns itself out and there is nowhere left creatively to go, then I can accept that. It happens sooner or later with every franchise. But if it happens because Kevin Feige decided to become an ideological activist before a storyteller....

reply

...then that will piss me off. Because it will be potential wasted for nothing. Those people have no real love for the stories, and when they have killed the franchise from the inside, they will just move on to the next host.

reply

And they will all eventually be gone. You're just angry because you love what you love and you have no control over what happens. Let it go. Eventually all the current people will be gone and a new group will come in. Trust me, no one saw Batman becoming good after Batman and Robin. Then came Noland. That's the funniest part about people complaining about woke crap. All you need to do is stop going. Let them ruin the franchises. It will be their undoing, not yours.

All the MoronChat trolls in one thread!

Loki episode ratings are increasing! Lots of great Marvel stuff coming like What If ..., more movies.
BW already has Imdb ratings & reviews, 7.4 from 7K votes. Not as high as Wandavision or Loki though.

reply

The film hasn't even opened officially yet. The ratings are from people who went to the previews and will be positively skewed. If it is at 7.4 now, within 2 weeks it will probably be the worst rated MCU movie since Captain Marvel.

reply

The glory days of the MCU are well over. Killing off all the popular characters and replacing them with low tier crap like Larson's Captain Marvel...Good Marvel films could still exist in isolated pockets like Joker but no one cares anymore about NY being destroyed yet again and then saved by group of heroes grouped together based off a check list.
