Anyone else think "David is really"... Spoiler Alert...

... the Peterson's Son/Older brother who they think is dead?

Maybe it's been mentioned but I haven't seen it...

The MP said he was part of a program where he killed and burned all of the other guys in the program... a program he was in with the dead son/brother. Early on they show a picture of those guys and a guy who looks like David is in the picture with their son. Then at the end they say the burned bodies in the gym had their teeth knocked out... so they couldnt be identified by dental records. He prob did the same thing the guys in his unit. Then knowing his parents had the picture of the unit casue he gave it to them, he went to the plastic surgeon in Miami to make him look like one of the dead guys so he could point him out in the picture and say, "see thats me with your boy right there." Thus gaining access to help them with their problems. Then the only reason he turns on his family is cause like the MP says, he's hardwired to kill anyone who can blow his cover and they all can once the daughter digs up dirt and the MP's show up.

David's initial acts are all to help the Peterson's... albeit in his effed up way.

He beats the *beep* out of those guys to get them to stop bullying his little bro and continues to try make him tougher and more capable of handling tough situations on his own thru out.

He knows the sister's BF is a no good, so he sets him up to get him out of her life forever. Sure he killed two people to do it, but he's a psycho... and after all it's the thought that counts

He kills the Dad's boss and thus gets him the promotion he missed out on.

All would have improved their lives and futures if the sister didnt get nosey.

What other motivation would David have for showing up at their house if he wasn't their family and trying to help them? If he's not, he killed their son and the only poss explanation would be guilt, but I don't think this guy feels that.

If you think about, it's hard to come up with any other reason why he up at their house to help their lives along besides him being their dead son/brother.

Fun theory. But, I don't think he is their son. Wouldn't the family recingize his voice or mannerisms? I think he showed up to check on them just because he said he would.

reply

Ha. Did u guys just see this on Netflix too? I would think david was their son's close friend, hence he genuinely wanted to help them out. The guy in that picture really was him. He has yet to get the plastic surgery done hence him on the phone trying to set it up with the dr in Miami when the daughter overheard him.

I agree with OP completely. He was the son. Remember when the military lady was looking up his record, the son's pic came on the screen which also showed the name David Andersen Collins. So he had already undergone the physical transformation before he came home.

The diner/grenade scene was so bad/good, I had to watch it again and again. Someone posted it on YouTube.

Also, David had plenty of opportunity to boff the Mom and daughter, but didn't. Makes complete sense if you consider he's the son/brother.

Good theory points; however, would he want to kill his mother, father, sister, brother instead of just coming out to them as their thought-to-be-dead son/brother? They would have protected him or so it seems, if he had told them.

He wasn't any of the bodies in the school. He walked out of the school in a fireman's outfit, which the daughter saw and their eyes met and she said "what the *beep*?!" Out loud. Maybe you missed that part? It was right at the end.

I was thinking this!!!!

"David", while in the program, grew close to their son Caleb. Perhaps Caleb was able to reach a part of David that still had humanity and David remembered this once Caleb died. He wanted to repay Caleb's kindness, and perhaps fulfill Caleb's request for his family to be looked after. Or maybe he wanted to experience the family that his friend came from since he probably didnt have one. Or he just wanted somewhere to lay low, and recalled Caleb talking about his home.

That is my thinking, as well. Plus empathy for how Caleb & the other died, betrayed by the Major, et al.

It reminded of a twist in POV of "Three Days of the Condor." I think it's partly because there's a betraying "Major" in that one, too. A real company man.

The Caleb-David theory is a fun one to play with, though.

There would have to be at least a subtle hint to any of this, of which there wasn't.

How do you explain the photograph that showed both Caleb and David?

reply

I thought he killed the dealer to get those guns, not just to set up Anna's boyfriend.
