What is love to an atheist?

I watched the movie today and it got me thinking a lot. The idea of having nothing after dead and no God gets me to think of something.

I googled my question to google and I came up with this. http://www.strangenotions.com/atheists-love/

I'd like to hear your opinions on this. My intentions are not to offend atheists. I just want to understand how it works.

By the way, Stephen Hawking is a perfect example of the 'problem of evil' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_of_evil - a common hypothesis to why there is no God, I believe.

You can love in the abstract, but not in the sense of loving a supernatural being .

I couldn't be bothered reading that or the 8 pages of replies to this post. It's, quite frankly, beneath me and it's also insulting that you even felt the need to make this a thread in the first place. Why the hell is 'love' so different for people just because they're atheists? Animals can feel love every bit as much as humans, yet they're not inclined to follow any theistic notions, are they?

I came on the board to blast the OP, then I read a couple of the comments. People are so rude. No one on this board knows what happens after we die. To atheists who don't understand about the bible and God, God is synonymous to love in the bible, and to Christians. OP don't ask questions (even if your intentions weren't to offend) that you will hear a thousand worthless answers to. It's not worth it. The atheists in this board give all atheists a bad name. How about a dose of maturity, and wisdom.

To answer your question. Atheists see the body and soul (some still see the soul as a way of expression) as full of animalistic desire. We are after all animals, but we have minds to think as well. I personally believe that logic is not everything especially in a world that is no means logical. I don't see people as just animals, we are more than animals. (In a lot of ways but in one way in particular) We should be able to control animalistic desire, because of the complexities of our brain. So love would just be another natural human emotion. Animals fall in love too it's no different for us.

Hornets don't believe in god and are the only species to show nothing but love to one another in many, many different kinds of ways.

So where atheists feel love and go with love that is bigger then your or mine faith in God.
