Live concert movies have notoriously and traditionally never been big box office.
People naively assume that the more popular the artist, the bigger the box office. It's rubbish. It could be the biggest artist on the planet, still it won't bring in the crowds.
Even before streaming, Sky, Netflix etc this was true.
And even more true now when people will wait to download it, and watch it at home on a 60 plus inch 4K TV.
Huh? This shattered every concert film ever. And it may beat Joker's record for an Oct opening, putting it on par with any other movie. Nothing traditional about it. It's a monster. The next biggest concert film is Bieber's, which drew 73mil -- not in its opening weekend -- but in its entire run. The fact that it was released so wide should've told you that this would be nothing like the typical live concert movie. You don't put it in 3,850 theaters b/c you expect that "it won't bring in the crowds". They knew the demand was high enough and they were absolutely right.
