Omi and Nagakado's epic downgrade compared to the 80s show.

Yeah, it's a shame really.
Original Omi was fantastic, a very inticing character from his first scene to his last scene. We meet him as this villaineous, hateful murderer who just beheads some poor peasant over, to us, nothing... and later our protagonist gifts him the love of his life in an incredible act of kindness, respect and friendship. Their arc and dynamic was beautiful and the actor portraying Omi absolutely nailed the part.
But in Shegun, all that matters not! So enjoy your soy-boy variations of all these characters and now admire how literally every noteworthy woman in this show casually swings naginatas around, you bigot. The force is female.
That gift was only in the TV series, not the book.
Samurai women being trained to fight was something from the book that this show is based upon. Why do armed women threaten you so much?
Do these noteworthy women have names? The only ones waving around a polearm are Mariko in defense of Toranaga and Fujiko practicing after her injury.
> That gift was only in the TV series, not the book.
So? Completely besides the point.
> Why do armed women threaten you so much?
Why does Kyle Rittenstud arouse you so much?
The point I was making is that both series are only loosely based upon the book.
I think you're the one with only enough blood to operate your brain and your penis at the same time. Why are you so attracted to Rittenhouse?
> The point I was making is that both series are only loosely based upon the book.
That's fine, but irrelevant to my criticism of the show.
> Why are you so attracted to Rittenhouse?
It's MR. Rittenhouse for you. And you didn't answer my question.
Unlike you, I do not pretend to not be very gay for the Rittenstud.
Stop suppressing your true self Ran. Just let it happen. Think of him wielding that AR-15 in slow motion, perfectly executing his rights while ridding society of pure human trash. Mmmhhh...

That might be so!
But, it does not alter the facts, Mr. Ran.
And you know it.

Look at J-Pop - that's where Japan is at right now - same goes for Korea
The characters both exist in the book and are different than the counterparts in either TV series. Both parts are a shadow of what they were in the book.
In the book, Naga was 19. The actor Shin Takuma in the 1980 series was 24 and looked older. In the 2024 series, actor Yuki Kura was the same age and looked younger in my opinion. In the book and the 2024 series, Naga was loyal and skilled, but impetuous. Naga of the book did not get his ass killed by slipping on a rock and breaking his skull. In the book, Toranaga ordered Naga to be Blackthorne's friend after Mariko's died.
I don't recall Omi's age in the book. But I do prefer the performance of his character in the 1980 series over that in 2024. Again Omi of the book is more violent, he beheaded the man in the beginning for refusing to bow after Omi insulted Christians. The book also had him hacking the peasant to pieces.
Yeah, Omi in this 2024 version had almost no presence at all. In the 1980 series he was a strong presence. A couple of characters were arguably improved in the 2024 series, Ishido for example, I think they gave him far more screentime than was warranted but I think his portrayal was very good. Fujiko was handled well for the most part, at least the actress did a great job. Yabu as well, I like Yabu in the 1980 version but Asano really brought him to life here. But the vast majority of characters suffered from this adaptation. I don't mean in the way incel types bitch about ("waaaah feminism"). But Blackthorne was made a clown. Mariko was made cold and bratty. The two of them had no chemistry whatsoever and their romance was dead in the water. Rodrigues, oh man... I miss my boy Rodrigues and his friendship with Blackthorne. Nobody was going to top John Rhys-Davies, that's just a fact, but they didn't even try; this show's Rodrigues was half-assed and then disappeared entirely. Alvito had none of his old strength, cunning and screen presence. And Toranaga... I mean, Sanada could have been a good Toranaga, but the way this one was written, it just didn't happen. This just wasn't Toranaga.
I just really don't like this adaptation. It had some positive aspects but it just wasn't Shogun and it wasn't that good.
