Does anyone understand WTF is going on right now in this series?
😎 ???????
They've been renewed for Season 9. They can still play a bit, even though the audience might not like the mind games.
shareI don't. I almost started a topic like this and realized I didn't care even if it was explained to me. It is SO convoluted now. I can't follow the big story episodes at all anymore. But the case file episodes are still pretty good when they pop up.
The show keeps getting renewed and we're never going to get satisfying answers to anything. And we're probably already past the point of no return on those answers having meaningful payoff.
And my lord, how many different ways can they make Liz unrelateable and unlikable? Her payoff is the crux of this whole opera and the soup is mud.
Well said sir, and I agree.
😎
POSTS LIKE THIS ARE WHY I GAVE UP ON HOUR LONG DRAMAS...I HAVE TOO MANY OTHER VIEWING OPTIONS TO GET HUNG UP ON FOREVER LONG,CLIFF HANGING CONVOLUTED POTBOILERS...ALTHOUGH I LOVE SPADER.
LONG LIVE ROBERT CALIFORNIA!🚮
Well said, and I agree. And long live Alan Shore!
😎
It really has become the "how much do people like James Spader?" show. How much will people put up with? What's the threshold? Well we're all gonna find out together.
shareAlan Shore the best..I liked him more in The Practice then Boston legal.

He's good in everything.
😎
I think Spader was brilliant as Alan Shore ...
he’s a very talented actor, nevertheless I gave up a couple of season ago.
I can’t believe people actually still follow
“Who is Red?” does not interest me anymore .. this mystery has lost its appeal.
We still haven't discovered who he is, so I quit wondering about it.
😎
Okay so you feel Spader’s fine portrait of Red, makes The Blacklist worth watching, anyways.
Fair enough...
I have also an issue with his looks ..
I read he likes to indulge in food , drink
it’s obvious he made/makes no effort to keep in shape ..
He has changed visibly over the seasons and not for the better ..
Note, I’m not referring to the hair loss .. that doesn’t bother me but the “panza” and overall bloating do.
He is only 61 but being overweight like that ages him.
Okay then.
😎
Glad you agree MovieManCin2 !
🙂
No, not really. I was just humoring you.

...and I was just fooling around with you .
My reply was my way to tease you 😂
Why not just say you disagreed and offer your opinion .. or just simply pass ..
I knew you did not agree with me but I found it childish the way you went about it.
fat people in america.... there are so many of 'em and they definitely relate to Spader - in fact, him being fat may be why this show is still being funded - lol
At the same time - I gotto say.... I'm in my 40's, but it seems like nearly everyone, even in the poorer countries, tend to get fat when they reach their 60's and 70's - which is pretty shitty.

Really??😳
Well, unlike the average obese, Spader gets paid stellar money to play Red.
He is on tv ... I think he could make an effort ..stop indulging in food and wine ( which he has confessed candidly he does do) and keep in shape.
If he needs help, pay a nutritionist and do some exercise wouldn’t harm.
Actors /actresses usually work hard on keeping their good looks .
NB:When The Blacklist first aired over seven years ago, the actor was getting paid $130,000 per episode,
Now Spader makes $300,000 per episode, which is $6.6 million per season, and because of this he has become the highest paid actor on NBC.
Same, except I lasted about two seasons.

The writers definitely dragged the Red/Liz mystery far too long
.. I just read Meghan Boone is leaving the show..so now seems like writers are going to rush the conclusion/ spill the beans in the last two episodes of season 8.🙄
Instead of a season 9 without Liz, who after all is the second most important character on this series, it would have made far more sense to conclude the Red/Liz plot 2/3 seasons ago and simply wrap up the series at that point.
It does sound like it went on too long. I think the people who produce tv shows have different interests than audiences. The audience wants a beginning, middle, and end, because they become invested in the fates of the characters and in what it all means. The people who make the shows want to wring as much money as possible out of the show for as long as possible so that they can keep working. They know that some viewers are going to get bored and impatient waiting for the mystery to be solved or the people to fall in love or whatever, and they don't mind if those viewers leave, as long as they can hook sufficient new viewers with the concept. If it feels like we're being strung along, we are.

I think the producers made the wrong choice.
I believe even loyal viewers would have preferred to see the Red/Liz arc end sooner and then see their relationship grow and have them work a new mystery together
rather than have a season 9 with out Keen ..
... without anymore Red/Liz and Ressler/Liz dynamics.
This way the producers still could have had their long series , made money and kept their loyal viewers happy.
I ‘m curious to see if the ratings for season 9 will remain positive or will many ditch the series.
I agree with you. At some point, if the mystery isn't solved, you just lose interest. I think actually shows that were based on a will-they-won't they (romantic tension) figured this out a long time ago. If the two people on tv with a romantic interest in each other don't get together within a year or two of meeting, then the answer is: they won't. We don't care why. They should move on from each other and find someone compatible. But somehow, shows based on other kinds of dilemmas feel like the same reasoning doesn't apply.
I actually think that if a show has to rely on a mystery like "who is Red to Liz?" for such a long time, then maybe it's a sign of a poorly constructed show. There's an objective answer to the question, the viewers just aren't allowed to know what the answer is. You KNOW you're being strung along. It just comes to feel manipulative.
I think the show is being carried by James Spader being James Spader.

@from the fans point of view, I do believe that not finishing the series with Meghan Boone aboard was lousy..low ..
I’m sure long term viewers were super excited , when they heard months ago that there would be a season 9
..then two episodes before season 8 ends they get hit by a bombshell : Meghan Boone is leaving at the end of season 8....
I’m sure they feel cheated out.... knowing all the great moments between Red and Liz and Ressler and Liz they dreamt about have just gone up in smoke.
Anyways, time will tell if Spader can keep people motivated to watch The Blacklist.
Of course, I read that one of the strongest theories now is that Red is actually Katerina who had a gender change 🙄
I sincerely hope that the writers did not go down that cheap path .. heck people have been waiting for EIGHT long years... that they made the revelation worth the wait.
PS: if I recall, Red went to meet Katerina in Paris.. how does that work out?
ha. I didn't even think about all the time we wasted on this maybe something whatever between Liz and Ressler.
