Killing yourself is NEVER the answer...

... no matter what hollywood and movies like this try to imply.

Keep fighting the good fight, even the severely disabled have a lot to contribute. NEVER give up! It's taking the test and passing it that bring rewards on the other side of all this pain.

People like you make me want medically assisted dying ALL THE MORE!

***So I've seen 4 movies/wk in theatre for a 1/4 century, call me crazy?**

I'm gonna guess that you lead a pretty easy & privileged life. Because coming from someone who is in constant pain 24/7 for the past 10 years I get where he is coming from and I'm still able to work and get around and run a business but there are many many days I wake up and wish I hadn't. I also have a friend who was in a wreck years ago and he was left disabled and he gets along great, but he's not in pain. I think the issue for a lot of people who take the euthanasia route is the significant level of pain they are in. When you are loaded up on drugs and sooner or later those drugs wear out and you have to get more and better pharmaceuticals to help the pain, not to mention the endless doctor visits and the stupid amounts of money that this takes from you. Don't even get me started on the friends and family who no longer call or care because you can't go out and be your old happy go lucky self. So, *beep* you and your self-righteous BS on saying that it is never the answer. YOU WEREN'T ASKED THE QUESTION, YET!

reply

I'm sure you mean well, but you should not try to force your religious or philosophical beliefs onto someone else. Nobody chose to be born, and to force someone to endure a lifetime of suffering is torture and is to reduce that person to a slave, not an autonomous person with rights and dignity of their own.

Human societies must move past our atavistic, knee-jerk aversion to the subject of death, and grant everyone the right to choose whether or not to continue their existence.

What if you're wrong about the great Juju at the bottom of the sea?

Well sometimes it is. We can't speak for everyone in every situation. So maybe you need to check yourself.

reply

Oh lord, give me a break. Of course it's easy for you to say. Come back when you're in a position where you can longer take care of yourself.

Killing yourself is NEVER the answer...

I remember a few years ago there was a debate in my country about the subject of assisted suicide and the possibility for people to state clearly in a "will" what they would choose for themselves in case the got too ill to speak, to breath...
Well...some MPs were totally against the idea, they wouldn't even discuss it, and these MPs were basically saying how EVERY life is worth living... and I remember someone with severe disability writing them a letter saying something like that: "oh that's very nice and easy to say so, when you are sitting comfortably in your parliament bench, while we are here sitting in our own *beep*

So...no, I personally don't agree with the "Killing yourself is NEVER the answer" thing...

First of all, can people stop *beep* blaming "Hollywood" for not only the creation of this movie, but also for somehow sending out messages that they think they HAVE to follow?

This movie didn't say ANYTHING about how killing yourself is the answer, no matter how much you try to make it out to be.

Who are you to say that Will's decision isn't the right one for him? You missed the secondary message of this movie, which is that you can't force people to live if they truly can't stand being in pain, no matter how good your intentions are (in the case of Lou) or whatever agenda about disabled people you're trying to advocate.
