They are not just the opinion of one person, it’s the general consensus of all the professional reviewers in the world. Screw the entitled Star Wars geeks, Last Jedi is amazing.
The 'metric' on this very film is one of the reasons why people started turning away from 'professional reviewers' thoughts on media\entertainment. Clearly bought and paid for - or don't want to risk not getting future screening gigs by ripping on the studio that has a monopoly on almost every IP in the world.
User score 4.4, hmmm very different from critic score.
Critics mean absolutely nothing. They are paid. That alone makes there point invalid as they will have a natural bias one way or the other depending who is paying the bills and there salary.
JBran, it's called The Bandwagon Fallacy, mass appeal or group consensus does not make a fact.
The TLJ places emotion over logic, shine over substance, its events contradict the rules of its own universe, therefore it is poorly written as it forces the avid viewer/fan to lose their suspension of disbelief, which is one of the primary goals of a movie.
The perfect example is the Holdo Maneuver. It looked great and had emotional appeal, but scratch beneath the surface, and all sorts of questions start appearing.
TLJ deviated so much from cannon and the expanded universe in such a cartoonish way, it was parody at best. However, I think Episode IX will probably surpass it, taking it into the farcical.
Not really, you use opinions as facts, you are negative to people who criticise, i could also say that is typical troll behaviour.
You see how this works. You don't want a discussion, you just wanna shout down anyone who disagrees with you. You know by saying i hate star wars and i'm not a fan and i'm ati-star wars all because i don't like the last jedi.
I love the Last Jedi and so do the critics. I think it all just snowballed, once there was a whiff of hate online then gang culture got onboard and everyone said they hated it too.
I’d rather form my own opinion, then see that the adult critics agreed. As opposed to the teeny-bopper hate mob on the internet. The Last Jedi is outstanding, one day you will realise it.
Fine enjoy your trash movie, good for you, more power to you.
Doesn't mean anyone else agrees with you.
Ahh so all the fans of Star Wars are teeny boppers, hmmmm. OK.
So by that same logic there were no fans of the original trilogy as they wouldn't have been born then, if all the fans are teenagers.
Strange logic you have but you are doing the same as the critics by attacking the fans because they disagree with you. It is pathetic and just makes you look stupid.
If there was disappointment to the degree you're suggesting there was with Force Awakens, it wouldn't have done over $2billion, because WOM would have neutered it.
The Last Jedi was wrecked by WOM. It did great in its opening weekend, but as soon as WOM got out after that opening week, it dropped massively (I think its the biggest drop for such a high opening movie), so your Force Awakens example simply doesn't work.
To further show your example holds no water whatsoever, Force Awakens opened to $247million opening weekend, The Last Jedi was $220million opening weekend.
For there to only be a $27million difference between the two, doesn't suggest people were universally disappointed with Force Awakens, if they were, you would expect a much bigger dent in TLJ opening weekend.
To further show that you're not quite on the money:
Force Awakens Second weekend:
Friday $49million
Saturday $56million
Sunday $43million
The Last Jedi Second Weekend:
Friday $24million
Saturday $29million
Sunday $17million
If TLJ was really so great, it wouldn't have plummeted in its second weekend, if Force Awakens was so disappointing to people, and it affected TLJ's box office, we would have seen more than a $27million difference in those opening weekends.
You have to be kidding? Everybody went to see The Force Awakens because it was the first sequel to the original trilogy. It was a monumental event so people saw it right away. Once they saw how tame it was they didn’t care much for The Last Jedi, only the diehards went to see it. And Avatar made a billion, i’m not using box office as proof, but critic reviews.
Word of mouth means nothing when it comes to Star Wars, everybody knows Star Wars. And proves how casual fans are just casual. Critics rated it amazing and it is the best for years.
The Pro's how laughabe that statment is. You mean bias paid reviewers. You get that rght, they are paid.
For example Disney owns ABC and FOX, if both of those do a review do you think they will be unbias, of course they won't they will be favourable as there employer who made the film are paying for said review. Don't be so gullible.
I don't hate the films, again another false generalization.
I hate the Last Jedi, i'm indifferent on the Force Awakens, i like Rogue one and Solo was just ok.
i love the original trilogy and the prequels were poor but still had there moments.
Anything else?
And yes being a fan includes mechandise, toys, t-shirts, i'm not gonna explain because you already know but just continue to troll like you have been doing.
Yes, you and 53 critics liked it, and based on the same website, 2960 other poeple liked it.
Now by your own standard which you have set, being Metacritic. 4186 didn't like it, so by that very same standard, more people disliked the movie which is opposite of the facts you speak of in your original post.
By the way criticism isn't hate. fans criticise, media calls it hate.
So what? These scores are based on opinion, not fact. Besides, the entire film industry and marketing landscape has changed over the past 39 years. To compare the two is like comparing chocolate to fecal matter.
But you already knew that. It’s obvious that you’re just looking to stir things up.
