Bring back Palpatine = fan pandering
I didn’t like “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, but come on ... it’s incredibly transparent that Episode IX is dredging up a bunch of old characters to pander to the legions of whiny fans.

shareSince when did fans want palpatine back ... ?
And any fans that do acknowledge that it wouldn't make any sense.
Absolutely. Could have worked if they planned it that way from the getgo. I get the impression that making this last movie, JJ finally conceived some idea of what he would have done in the first place. The Emperor, existing in a different form for three stages, and in each one messing with a different generation of Skywalker, is actually a pretty great framing narrative for an epic tale. Good and evil locked in eternal confrontation, one of bloodlines and one of immortality. That's fantasy 101 stuff right there. Anything done at this stage attempting that narrative is just cobbled together leftovers.
shareWell, a new generation of Skywalkers fighting a threat that never dies, a threat that defeated their grandparent and survived their parents... that would have made a great story.
Too late, now.
I called it immediately after the backlash against TLJ & especially with Jar Jar back in the mix that it would be an absolute doubling down extravaganza of cheap pandering fan service and OT callbacks. Will also likely be a lbtg character "reveal" which will automatically solicit obligatory praise from the Hollywood media regardless of how bad the movie is.
The silly title alone is a blatanty direct pandering response to how so many people were pissed off about the treatment of Luke Skywalker.
Asshole fans will never be happy. End of story...🙄🙄🙄
shareYeah it's incredibly obvious damage control and fan pandering. I can't say I'm not excited to see Lando and Palpatine again though, Ian McDiarmid stole every scene he was in Revenge of the Sith and is really the only entertaining character with any kind of passion in the prequels. Can you imagine if Mark Hamill, Ian McDiarmid and Adam Driver all shared a scene together in IX? It'd be pretty insane but stupidly entertaining.
shareSolo was already filled with fan service and pandering (Maul). It's curious IX follows the same approach though considering how poorly Solo did despite those efforts.
shareBoba Fett in Empire was fan pandering. He was a throwaway character in the SW Christmas Special but fans loved the design.
shareNo know knows for sure if he's back...so it's a moot point till we see the movie....
