Will this be a reboot of ROTJ?
My sources say yes. Stay tuned...
shareOf course. It's JJ Abrams, and he only knows a couple things:
- Don't answer questions that fans want answers to.
- Copy and paste, rinse & repeat previous works.
The single worst filmmaker alive today.
share>>Copy and paste, rinse & repeat previous works.
Except he didn't do that with the first Star Trek (2009). A magnificent film, which didn't copy anything else. Inspired by SW yes, but it was it's own thing.
Oh bullshit. It's copied a lot. It was not a good film ...
shareIt copied a lot. Ok. Do you have any examples of movies it copied?

shareEntertaining film except it took a deliberate swipe at the fanbase by deliberately destroying the timeline. JJ claimed he wanted to be the only trek....even though he had zero to do with the success of the brand. Now it's just cookie cutter action series.
shareI agree with you that that the recent Trek films have not lived up to the quality of the first film from 09, but I don't think it's because JJ deliberately destroyed the timeline like you imply. He made a great reboot, he made a great film. Often sequels are not half as good as the first (look at the Iron Man films - the first one was a masterpiece, second one was weak).
Trek can still be Trek, even after JJ. They just need a good story and a great director. Then, lo and behold, a good film might follow. Star Trek Boyond was mediocre, but I blame the writers and the director of that film, not JJ.
I think I saw him quoted as saying that he wanted his trek to be the only trek, which was the motivation behind the time warp thing.

shareif RJ used half the plot of ROTJ for TLJ? then what's the other half? TESB?
shareI don't think the plot from ROTJ was used yet, the First Order stuck back in TLJ, so I think the plot from ROTJ is wide open. A wild card I think is that Ep9 ends on a cliffhanger and they make Ep 10, 11 and 12. But who knows at this point.
sharewhy would Ep9 ends on a cliffhanger? EP 9 is the final film the of skywalker saga.
shareNo. (TLJ spoilers ahead). This movie would need an Emperor-like character and a throne-room scene for this to be a Return of the Jedi reboot. They already had the throne-room scene in TLJ and axed the Emperor-like character. They are free to move on to something more original in Episode 9.
shareYeah, it probably will be a bit different. I doubt Kylo is Rey's father.
I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see and if you have any thoughts or criticisms, i'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/nerCnafPUm8
If they want to copy RotJ, they set Darth Emo up as the new Emperor, and have Rey redeem him through love the way Luke redeemed Anakin.
I really hope they don't do that, because it would be painfully derivative. I aslo wish I could trust Abrams not to be painfully derivative, but let's get real here.
your wish has come true, looks like the emperor is alive and well...
shareI don't think Episode 9 is going to be a reboot of ROTJ. TLJ wasn't a reboot of ESB.
shareTLJ had some of the same plot points as ESB. The First Order struck back against the rebels/resistance and sent them fleeing to the outer rim. They had a battle on a snow planet but it was actually salt. The rebels in the trenches fighting against the empire/first order. Either the resistance will return in Ep 9 to defeat the first order or the story will be stretched out in Episodes 10, 11 and 12. There is pretty much no other option for the story line.
shareI've been paying attention to most of the set leaks as I have no interest in being spoiler free
For this debacle. Trust me...you will wish it was a rehash of episode six!
Reboot??? Probably not. Rehash??? Most likely.
