How would you prevent 9/11 from happening?

Ok you got a time machine and you can only go back a few hours before 9/11 happens, what do you do to stop it from happening.

And a heads up for the really young people, American government was not like it is today they ignored a lot of threats.

Actually very easy.
Call the airports from which planes took off and say that you have placed bombs in these airports and then say that you're Al Qaeda and are planning terror acts involving planes in future too.
This would alert aiport security, airports would be shut off and seached and CIA would in future, hopefully, take more care towards who is boarding planes.
Additional calls to police regarding bombs placed in WTC buildings and Pentagon would also help to stop the tragedy.

The issue is, you don't want to send information to FBI or CIA that you have knowledge that Al Qaeda is planning something, cause nobody will care. You have to act like a terrorist, call police, read from Quran or just call everybody infidels and say that America will pay bloody price yadda yadda like Mandarin from Iron Man 3 and say that Sheik Osama bin Laden has asked you have placed explosives there and there. From personal experience, a thing like that shuts down airports for hours.... ok maybe it's just like that now, but even then any bombing threat would be taken seriously and terrorists would probably cancel the plan due to confusion of what's going on.

I would not change it. Who's to say Bin Laden would not plan an even worse attack because this one failed? And who's to stay we will catch him then? It's an idea to change the awful past with good intentions, but you never know if you might create an even bigger/worse event. Then we have to trace back to where we can change the changes and it keeps getting worse.

Time travel is unpredictable. If it is invented, I just wish that whoever goes back, appears as a mirage/ghost who has no power to change anything even if they wanted to.

Its the whole Killing Hitler problem all over again. If somone were to travel back in time and Assasinate Hitler, The most likely scenario is the world being ruled by Soviet Union. Hitler was the only one that did massive damage to the Soviets and without it they would have had Europe, and eventually perhaps the entire world.

So whos to say that Stopping 9/11 wouldnt just turn into an even worst disaster?

Bomb threats are always taken seriously. Just phone in bomb threats for both buildings and four flights. But stopping those threats would only slow them down. Eventually something like 9/11 was bound to happen because the US generally doesn't care what the rest of the world thinks about how we treat them. Heck, most Americans don't even know what message the hijackers were trying to send, and actively don't want to know as a point of pride.

reply

You can't. When you go back to stop 9/11, it never happened. But if it never happened, you have no reason to go back and stop it from happening. But if you don't go back to stop if from happening, it will have happened again.

Best case scenario: you created two universes. One where it happened, one where it didn't happen. The one where it happened will always exist, though, and everyone in that universe will still suffer from it. So technically you didn't change anything for those who experienced it in the first place.

Moderate case scenario: you are stuck in an infinite loop of stopping it and not stopping it, playing out for all eternity.

Worst case scenario: the universe implodes, because of the paradox.

I'd give a detailed, anonymous tip to the FBI.

I'd also try to notify airport security for whichever airport that 'Pennsylvania plane' flew out of.

If that fails, I'll just resign myself to fate.

FIRST:

I'd talk to historians I trust to get a read on what might happen without 9/11

Would a worse attack happen later? (Bin Laden would certainly try)

Would things be better in general?

I think the post-9/11 world is worse in general, but maybe we needed to "grow up" as a species, the way we did after Watergate.

call in a bomb threat at the those 4 airports, the pentagon, the WTC

although it seems our govt had an idea that it was coming so if they didn't bother to intervene , there are bigger forces at work

A few hours wouldn't really give you time to do much except make some phone calls. So you would have to be specific about the flights and call in bomb threats to each airport, City Police, maybe the media, and then leave a copy of the 9/11 report at the place where I made the call from

I say just give the terrorists those...71?...77?...79?...dunno...virgin pussies they've been promised in Heaven, so they don't need to go there look for them.
But then again, if I have done that, I would have become their new prophet and they would have started blackmailing me since day 2, asking for more and more virgins right here on Earth. Where on Earth could I find so many of them?
My name would be Has Been Laden pretty fast.
