She's a good actress, but I always pictured Diondra as being more midwestern husky.

I agree. Chloe's going to have to work hard to pull off a believable young Diondra, who was both emotionally and physically abusive to Ben. Diondra never came across as a slip of a waif in the novel. Flynn goes into detail about Diondra being emotionally overtaxing, physically aggressive, and even that she wore men's designer dress shoes (even her feet were emasculating to poor Ben).
shareAlthough I think Moretz did a capable job in this role, I understand the point many are making. Sometimes movie casting thinks they can completely forget the part that physical appearance, especially in size, which plays a part in characterization.
Not having even read the book, I can believe that the character was intended to be a kind of mid-western stock that read husky. Big more like the actress who played Simone in Season 2 of Fargo. Chloe reads waif physically. I think waif-like fit Libby more and it's my understanding that the novel said the character was really short.
Ben seemed to be someone who was submissive and could easily dominated by physically big and aggressive woman.

Proof of her over acting and "I'm trying to seem badass by squinting my eyes and pouting my lips a lot, and talking in this weird breathy voice" demeanour? I see that. She's a great person I'm sure, and everyone's new "it" girl, but not believable in this role (TO ME).

That's also the show that got her role in Dark Places, just more proof of how believable she was.
Chloe has pulled off every role that I've seen her do, so I'm looking forward to seeing her in this movie. I haven't read the book - if that's what you people are talking about - but I've never seen her fail a performance, and that's after having seen more than twelve movies of hers, as well as the numerous guest appearances she's had on TV shows.

the only thing i don't like about CGM getting cast as Diondra is that she plays a killer IN 90% of her projects: Kick Ass, Hick, Carrie, Let Me In. So I feel like when people who didn't read the book watch the movie they'll jokingly think she's the killer and ruin that shock of an ending when you find out Diondra killed Michelle.
I was actually picturing CGM when I read the book a few months ago. Then I came on here and was shocked to find that she's playing Diondra.

shareI think Chloe will do a great job, but when I was reading the book, I kept picturing Liana Liberato, Hailee Steinfeld or Sasha Pieterse as Diondra. But Chloe is hardly unforgivable casting. Charlize Theron on the other hand... As much as I love Charlize Theron and consider her one of the greatest actresses of her generation, shes just so far from Libby physically, her casting just does not make sense at all. Maybe I've just been spoiled with how perfectly cast every single person was in Gone Girl, but unless Charlize pulls off a Monster/North Country level performance, I just won't be able to see past the fact shes about a foot taller than she should be.
