General question about 007 generally — why doesn’t James Bond actually seem to function like a spy?

I was talking about 007 with a friend and other than maybe Goldeneye and the whole infiltration to blow up the Soviet facility with 006, a lot of the bond stories dont seem to actually be doing British national/strategic missions. The villains are always one off transnational supervillains or criminals or something. Isn’t that more of an Interpol type of organization’s mission for intrigue rather than an MI6 spy?

Because real spy work is usually pretty boring. These movies are larger than life, and need over-the-top storylines. That's what makes them so fun to watch.

I doubt any MI6 spy has ever actually jumped out of a plane, wrestling a 7' assassin with steel teeth on the way down. LOL.

Bond actually did some spying work in Moonraker and that's probably one of the reasons I like it so much...

That makes sense but I feel like there could have been action oriented Cold War ops or stuff related to nuclear proliferation in the 90s foiling a fictional invasion of west Germany and stuff like that. Like in real life wasn’t West Berlin, Beirut, brimming with espionage and intrigue?
