How does Tom Cruise keep finding work?
Thats it, how? I just dont get it. He is plain terrible. Ranks right up there with Nicholas Cage. Same character, different movie!

shareDefinite draw having his name on something.... even the turd that was War of the Worlds made some money because people were going to see TC in it.
Admittedly there was a period in the late 80's where a Tom Cruise film had a certain formula to it...
Tom Cruise is a <insert profession here>. Turns out he's a pretty good <insert profession here>, maybe even the best there is. That is until he suffers a tragedy, which gives him a crisis of confidence and he doesn't want to be a <insert profession here> any more. Then he meets a beautiful lady and falls in love, recovers his confidence and finally proves to everyone he is the best <insert profession here>.
(I hold up as evidence, just off the top of my head, Top Gun, Cocktail, Days of Thunder).
Actually since then, he's shown a wide variety of roles (although often coming back to action), and has pulled them off pretty well. I thought he handled Minority Report quite well, with the mix of psychological thriller and action.
I'm actually more bummed out that someone decided that rather than try for a new story we'd have another re-re-make.... I know Batman went down a storm, Star Trek is going down really well, but please Hollywood, enough of the Franchise Reboot already!
War of the Worlds easily is the worst movie on Tom Cruise's rep sheet, but it wasn't because of bad acting, just extremely poor writing (kind of a proof that not every Steven Spielberg movie with aliens in them automatically is good).
And even the formulaic movies you mentioned aren't bad (ok, I haven't seen Cocktail).
And remakes are THE thing in Hollywood atm, even though some of them failed spectacularly, like for example Fantastic Four and Ghost Busters. There have been a few really good ones, for example the Dawn of the Dead, but most are pretty mediocre at best.
OP, you hate him a lot. Because, of his bland or same character different movie. His movie are never boring, always entertaining and he acting do show some range on his non-action flicks. Look at his list of movie, chose one that is not a action.
shareThis is how I feel about Seth Rogan. I find him repulsive in every way. He's ugly, he's got a nasty smirk on his face, he's rude, crude and a pig, he's not funny and he can't act. But, he gets leading roles, he gets movies made, he appeals to a lot of men.
But I don't have to watch his movies and after the first one where he starred in it, I stopped.
It takes all kinds to make the world go around and Tom Cruise amuses and entertains some of us.
Scientologists own Hollywood, that's why he keeps getting work.
shareHe is one of the most bankable movie stars ever, if not the most bankable. He is a really good action star.
He sells tickets, or he wouldn't be making movies or at least big budget movies.
He sells tickets because he was in a couple good movies 30 years ago and is living off the fame. He may be marketable, but that doesn't mean he's a good actor by any right.
shareHe did a bad job in Collateral?
Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?
And I'm assuming you knew so much about acting that you could turned out to be the next Marlon Brando? It's remarkable how quick it is for people to become critics these days just because they've watched a few entertainment and could tell between a good and bad acting all the way, even if it isn't that obvious.
shareBetter question is how Kurtzman keeps finding work.
...keeps alive the weak, the stupid, the lazy that breed and multiply, weakening the human race
Mostly cause he's focused and never became addicted to anything (except fame maybe). Tom isn't just a star, he's force behind the scenes in Hollywood, with a lot of power and influence. He has a whole team of people making sure he stays on top. Not to mention hustling his way to the top of the Scientology food chain and the benefits reaped from that. All scripts and opportunities come across Tom's desk first. And he gives 110 percent to the projects he chooses to make sure things stay that way. I'm sure there's a secret seedy side to Team Cruise of blackballing, coercion and all that other typical Hollywood shady business practice. Like if Matt Damon is about to make a movie Tom wants, he might be able to shut that down with a phone call.
"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"
The answer to your question is probably something like: every scripting Hollywood comes across his agents desk and he just picks what he wants to do. This is like asking how does Tom Brady continue to find work?
shareCruise puts asses in theater seats... simple. Whether him or his movies are likeable is another story.
...keeps alive the weak, the stupid, the lazy that breed and multiply, weakening the human race
Because he's a great actor and his catalogue of movies are all in all, pretty damn good. Add in he's a huge box office draw and you realise what an idiotic question yours is.
