Me, and objectively understanding the musical complexity of what makes Tool a better band than Pantera. I have an extensive music background, and yes, there is some music that is undeniably more advanced than others. Tool gets creative with time signatures and textures. Phil could write a great, heavy power riff, that's about it.

Iâm happy that you have an âextensiveâ musical background that can allow you to âobjectivelyâ say one band is better than another. Iâve played guitar since I was 12 years old, so Iâd like to think I have something to say on the matter as well.
Guess whatâŠPhil didnât write the riffs for Pantera. That would be Dimebag Darrell. Phil mainly wrote the lyrics. And if you followed Pantera, which by your statement on Phil, you clearly donât, you would know that Pantera is much more complex than you give them credit for. Go listen to âFloodsâ for composition and Dimeâs incredible guitar work.
Tool and Pantera are two completely different types of bands, and Iâd wager it would be much easier if Dime were alive for him to play Toolâs stuff than for Toolâs guitarist to play Panteraâs material.
Also, Phil is a much better frontman than Maynard. Of course, that is MY opinion, and not an objective statement.
You've just exposed yourself as being full of shit. Phil absolutely wrote a lot of the music. If you're going to talk shit, at least have some credibility yourself.

Phil can and has wrote a lot of great music for a lot of his many bands, including claiming to write the original riff of âMouth For Warâ, but the Pantera riff machine was Dimebag Darrell, and anybody who knows Pantera knows that.
