These are all films that are rated under 7 at most and simply in my opinion are deserving of a higher score:
The Zero Theorem (2013) Mississippi Grind (2015) Black Sea (2014) Ain't Them Bodies Saints (2013) Drag Me To Hell (2009) The New World (2005) Smashed (2012) The Babadook (2014) Spider (2002) The East (2013) It Follows (2014) Macbeth (2015) Contagion (2011) Solaris (2002) Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) Such a great film The guest (2014) Sound of my voice (2011) While we're young (2014) Mistress America (2015) The good doctor (2011) High-Rise (2015) The witch (2015) Noah (2014) Only God Forgives (2013) In secret (2013)
The Words was a movie which, in the past, had a rating of a 6.8 which was absolutely unbelievable to me, and while it's rated a 7.1 as of today, that movie, along with Enemy, may possibly be my two most underrated films.
I actually read through ALL the posts for replying, haha! Here are my two cents.
There are plenty of movies that I thoroughly enjoy and I would give over a 7 for entertainment value - even if I recognize that they're not really worthy of a 7 in quality (Event Horizon, even though these days it's close to the 7).
I'd like to point out three films that I feel are just really well put together and ooze atmosphere. The acting is great and they offer singular viewing experiences. Most importantly - in the words of the Coen brothers - these movies 'create their own universe' for about two hours.
1. Hellboy 2. Hellboy 2 - The Golden Army (it has a 7 now) 3. Super (2010)
The third one, Super, has been mentioned several times in the posts above. It is such a cleverly made film and purposely puts you on the wrong track, only to destroy your viewing expectations in the second half. It's a disturbing movie and NOT the comedic Kick-Ass clone people were expecting. Perhaps that's why it doesn't get a 7.
Love this thread and picked up some good titles while reading it!
The Films listed here is not just films with a <7 score, but I think it is some of the most underrated movies I have seen (in relation to the imdb-rating).
- The Tree of Life (2011) - To me tre greatest movie ever. - Orphan (2009) - The most horrifying and unpredictable film twist ever. - Copycat (1995) - The most underrated serial killer movie - Bitter Moon (1992) - Very underrated film by Polanski. - Basic Instinct (1992) - The King of erotic thrillers - Enemy (2013) - Very complex and clever movie. (Makes me think of Vertigo and Persona) - Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - To me the second best film by Kubrick. Only passed by 2001. - The Cabin in the Woods (2010) - Very original to it's genre. - Das Wunder Von Bern (2003) - Maybe the greatest soccer film ever. - Du skal ære din hustru (1925) - This silent film by Carl Theodor Dreyer is so underrated. - Idioterne (1998) - A true experiment in two levels. The Dogme95 experiment - an experiment with the film as a medium and the content where the people are experimenting by acting like idiots.
