5 min Prologue clip: The Last Supper

https://youtu.be/EkXgRlRao5I

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The official prologue to Alien: Covenant introduces the crew of the mission as they gather for a final meal before entering cryosleep.

Set aboard the Covenant, a colonization ship on its way to a remote planet to form a new human settlement, the main crew (all couples) and their android, Walter, enjoy their final meal together before cryosleep.

Conceived by Ridley Scott and 3AM, directed by Luke Scott, and produced by RSA Films."

I liked the clip. Began with some light frat-housian humor but then quieted down to something solemn yet foreboding.

I noticed the editing cuts in this clip seemed more rapid-fire than I was used to seeing in a Ridley film, but then I learned it was Ridley's son Luke who directed this (haven't seen his new film "Morgan" yet).

"I've got your back" guess we'll find out if the Synthetic keeps his word in the movie, haha.

The last shot of the entire prologue was a close-up of Fassbender smiling. Very hard to tell if that was a benign or sinister smile, but, as you say, we're going to find out soon... 😬

Preliminary calculations say: body count will be high in this film. Lots of hemoglobin shown.

reply

Agreed! Paradise will be lost!

reply

I like that it is a large cast & hopefully that will mean plenty of carnage!

I didn't like the prologue, but I won't judge the movie on that. Didn't like the trailer either.

I guess I was surprised to see James Franco is in the film, as I don't really like him. He just doesn't 'suit' an Alien film imo.

reply

everyone in the crew seems to hate him though so there's that

reply

True, true. Hopefully he get's killed off early. Ha!

It was a nice clip. Cool to see the cast. I really like that Franco and Mcbride are in it. I hope that Mcbride has a big role and he gets to show his serious side.

Btw, Morgan was pretty weak. I actually liked this clip more than the whole film.

"Btw, Morgan was pretty weak. I actually liked this clip more than the whole film. "

Yes, I haven't heard anyone go crazy over Morgan. The highest praise you get doesn't usually go past "It's kind of interesting. It's okay." Doesn't make me want to rush out to see it, and I wasn't even that taken with the trailer. But I do wish Luke Scott luck with his career!

reply

Have to agree. Morgan was just fluff with only a couple of good scenes. I'm not really a fan of Kate Mara's acting, mind.

The clip managed to stay feeling serious, forboding, even during the nod/reference to the unforgettable scene from Alien. This was for me essential in winning some confidence in their ability to go back to the Covenant thread and it not ending up like AvPR.

I'm glad I watched this. Now I know not to pay money to watch this movie.
