White House Down or Olympus Has Fallen. Take your pick.

Both are so similiar it's not even funny. Both have a good guy who is the eyes and ears while trapped in the white house. They are both NOT in the secret service, but want to be. Both save the president's life by beating the bad guys. Both of the movies have the White House under big time attack. Both have a plot involving nuclear weapons and killing millions of people. Both have a SEAL team in blackhawk helicopters that is sent to rescue the good guys and kill the bad guys, but the mission fails when the choppers get shot down. Both of the movies have a former good guy that turns bad, which sets up the plot. I could go on and on. So which was the better movie out of these? I guess i'll choose "Olympus Has Fallen" because of all the violence, with the mass shooting when the attack went down.

Mike Banning was Secret Service but wasn't on the President's detail anymore. I'd take Olympus

Take your pick.

I'm pretty sure that was a rhetorical question people...

reply

Rhetorically speaking, Olympus kicks WHD's ass. That being typed Olympus doesn't have Maggie Gyllenhaal.

I feel guilty for watching this on Netflix streaming. Because, somehow, I contributed the making of future films that are equally insulting to our collective intelligence. The retributive "1 star" rating I gave it is so unsatisfying.

I want to apologize to the world for the "American Values" posited in this film.

reply

Olympus by far. It wasn't great but WHD was terrible.

Both movies are pretty good.
It's weird that both movies are very similar and also very different.
You don't have to choose one over the other, see both.

OHF ten times better than that Channing WHD crap. I like how they let Banning be as ruthless as the terrorists were. Yes, similar to John Mclain from Die Hard, but if you're going to copy some other movie, might as well copy a classic.

I've seen both and I want my time back, how's that for an answer.

reply

I enjoy them both enough for different reasons, but some of the plot holes in this film and the *beep* horrendous CGI really throw me off. WHD for me.

reply

I totally agree.

WHD is better.

Just watched OHF, I'd take WHD anytime over this crap.

OHF tries too hard to be super-serious when WHD knows it's just a cheesy action flick. It was just easier to suspend my disbelief in WHD. I just groaned at too many scenes or lines in OHF...

I feel as if OHF is the much better movie, but if forced to pick which one I'd rather watch by gunpoint, I'd say WHD. OHF has a much better badass in the lead and is better with realism (and has better antagonists except for James Woods), it is still pretty dull and takes itself really seriously when the writing is too goofy and blockerbustery to take seriously. WHD is a loud and stupid film, but it knows that and doesnt hide it, where as OHF does.

I give them both 5/10's.

Olympus better than WHD.
