It saddens me how this is making more money than Inside Out...

Inside Out has finally come out in my country, and I saw it yesterday. It is, by far, one of the best animated films I have ever seen. I could not believe how deeply emotional and joyfully funny it was. A few days ago, I also saw Minions, and was left highly disappointed. I thought it was rarely funny and was just a lot of nonsense, and this is coming from a BIG fan of Despicable Me 1 and 2. Inside Out had a lot of meaning, whereas Minions was just 90 minutes of yellow things goofing around with slapstick and pop culture mixed into it.

Thinking about it though, I think it's very clear why Minions is making more money than Inside Out:

1. Minions is a prequel to two very successful kids films, and kids and adults are very familiar with them. Inside Out is an original idea, so people might not know what they are going into.
2. As I mentioned, Inside Out has a lot of emotion and meaning, and I have read a lot of reviews complaining it made the kids upset/bored. Minions is just a lighthearted comedy. Therefore the latter would probably connect more with the average child.

If you enjoyed Minions, then good for you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. However, I personally think that Inside Out is the superior film. What is your favourite out of the two and why?

It saddens me that crap films can make so much money. Minions, Furious 7, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Jurassic World were bad films, but they made out of this world box office. It just forces the film industry to make more franchise and "cash grab" films.

There is only one way to fix that. make people stop going to watch these movies. otherwise this will keep happening.

Agree with you. Now tell me:
I have money for 1 animated feature, as I have to watch M:I-5 also. Which one should it be: Pixels or Minions?

I loved Minions - personally - thought it was funny and cute. Inside Out I have not seen - but have seen the previews and it just doesn't appeal to me on that level. I may eventually watch it on TV - but I certainly wouldn't pay movie theatre prices for it.

My reasons for liking Minions is pretty simple - they make me happy!

Inside Out definitely isn't funny and cute, so on that level I would agree. It is however fun and very emotional.

Inside Out isn't really supposed to be a comedy so of course it isn't going to be as funny as Minions.

This was my first time seeing Minions. Didn't see DM movies and only knew about yellow creatures via FB texting and general adverts in malls. Didn't really know what they are, why are they being advertised, where they came from non of that. And loved the movie. Later watched DM 1 and 2.

Agreed with friends to watch Inside Out not doing any research. Didn't even know it will be animation. I thought it will be some thriller/bank robbery/mini moris chase movie. We were watching at 940p. Without knowing anything about the movie, I thought the first 30 minutes were great, the best I have ever seen when talking about animation. But once family moves to SF that's when collective yawning among my friends kicked in. Very boring.

Inside Out may have kids in mind as a target audience, but that by no means makes it any less of a movie.

It's a great kids' movie that adults can enjoy and it doesn't talk down to its core audience. If this had been 2D animation with a bit dark color scheme, I'd say it was an early Don Bluth Film (Secret of Nimh, An American Tail, Land Before Time).

Inside Out was not cliche and while the concept itself isn't original, it does use the concept to tell a story that hasn't been told using it and is very imaginative.

Who cares if it's making more money. The producers maybe, but I don't give a toss. Inside Out is better, but who's making the money doesn't bother me. It's early days yet anyway.

Don't worry, in 5 years, Minions will be forgotten and remembered as a garbage film, while Inside Out will be remembered as an extraordinary original animated classic. Inside Out 2 will probably outgross Minions, franchise films make more money....
