It saddens me how this is making more money than Inside Out...

Inside Out has finally come out in my country, and I saw it yesterday. It is, by far, one of the best animated films I have ever seen. I could not believe how deeply emotional and joyfully funny it was. A few days ago, I also saw Minions, and was left highly disappointed. I thought it was rarely funny and was just a lot of nonsense, and this is coming from a BIG fan of Despicable Me 1 and 2. Inside Out had a lot of meaning, whereas Minions was just 90 minutes of yellow things goofing around with slapstick and pop culture mixed into it.

Thinking about it though, I think it's very clear why Minions is making more money than Inside Out:

1. Minions is a prequel to two very successful kids films, and kids and adults are very familiar with them. Inside Out is an original idea, so people might not know what they are going into.
2. As I mentioned, Inside Out has a lot of emotion and meaning, and I have read a lot of reviews complaining it made the kids upset/bored. Minions is just a lighthearted comedy. Therefore the latter would probably connect more with the average child.

If you enjoyed Minions, then good for you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. However, I personally think that Inside Out is the superior film. What is your favourite out of the two and why?

I'm happy it makes a lot of money! I just watched it and loved it!

I could give you quite a few examples of 'goofing around with slapstick and pop culture mixed into it' done cheaply and stupidly. I think Minions is definitely not one of those. It's indeed a bit nonsensical and goofy, which is not something bad at all, on the contrary, creativity and nonsense go well hand in hand. Nonsense is only a bad thing if there isn't ENOUGH nonsense. : D Or if something doesn't make sense in a serious story. But this is in no way a serious story. Minions is creative and fun, well written, and well directed. Does it have cliches? Yes, lots. Did I enjoy all of them? Hell yea! The people who storyboarded this movie really know their craft.

Inside Out is also really amazing. It has heart, it's emotional, while Minions doesn't have nearly as much, if at all. Maybe that's why many people were disappointed. To me they both are exceptional animated features and definitely some of the best visual entertainment money can buy.

My kid got so bored while watching Inside Out. He loved the Minions! If you make a movie for kids, make it enjoyable for kids. I don't care if it's superior or not, you should make it enjoyable for your target. If your target were teens, then you missed, cause teens don't watch animations anymore, they watch those stupid teen shows. Oh, and that Pixar movies you loved were made by totally different people. It's just the brand name that's the same.

IO is a better movie but boring. At least Minions are fun for the whole duration.
