Draft Day opinions thread
So what were your opinions of the movie if you saw it? I'm debating on whether or not to see it

shareThought it was fantastic!
shareI did like the characters and a different approach to the football genre.
shareIt's basically a bland, predictable, and ridiculous propaganda piece for the NFL & ESPN......crossed with a commercial for the upcoming real NFL Draft....as if the NFL doesn't try to pimp that over hyped snooze fest wayyyyyyy too much already.
shareSweetpeanance, aka Nostradamous,
What parts of this were predictable for you?
I ask because it seems every time I read negative comments about a film, several people lampoon it with the "predictable" label.
Did you predict that the important matter discussed between Sonny and Ali would be virtually forgotten the rest of the movie?
Did you predict that Sonny's mother would show up right before the big draft pick and insist he take time out to do something that could have been done any other day of the year?
Did you predict that the GM with the top draft pick would offer it to him? Or that he would make the decision to not draft a certain someone and then get a second chance at him? Or what would happen then?
I submit that only small elements of this were predictable. I also submit that a movie that is so full of surprises that nobody knows where it is going at all, is quite likely NOT a great movie because it leaves people too confused. Some predictability is a real plus. Would anyone make a sports movie about someone with great talent joining a team, but no matter how good he plays, the team continues to lose most of their games and never plays in an important game? Who would watch? So, you could say all sports films are predictable in that the team plays well enough to at least come close to winning a championship. That seems to be true for all sports films, whether that team loses at the end or wins.
As for the key elements in this film, there's no way in the world they were predictable. It was full of surprises. I think that one word description of "predictable" ought to be shelved whenever someone wants to find fault with a movie.
As examples:
Gone With the Wind was quite predictable--I knew the South would lose the war and unless Scarlet totally changed her personality, her relationship with Rhett would not last.
E.T. was predictable. I just knew he wasn't going to be adopted and wind up going to school with Elliott and be treated like any other kid.
We could tell the white guy wouldn't become a Browns, and that the Browns' player would keep his spot. We knew Denis Leary wouldn't really quit. We knew the words the Seattle GM used in the opening would be thrown back in his face. We knew Kevin would patch things up with Jenifer. And these were all main plot points.
Yes, the movie did have some surprises. I didn't expect to see Rosanna Arquette or Sam Elliott in the movie. Good to see them!
I thought the movie was OK.

Dis wuz waaaay better than Oculus. Critix were so wrong.
Werd 2 ur mudda, bruddafcker
I really enjoyed the movie. Thought it was well done. I know a little bit, but not a WHOLE lot about football, and it kept my interest. I think those who know absolutely nothing about football may be bored or confused by it, but I would give it an 8.
Some may have a problem with the 21 year age difference between J. Garner & K. Costner, but it honestly didn't bother me as much as I thought it would, going in. He looks good in this movie, and she gives a great, understated performance, IMHO.
It's actually a 17 year age difference... She'll be 42 in a few days... But ya, that still a big age difference.
shareI concur. I enjoy watching football, but am not obsessed with it, although it is about the only sport I do watch. The 21 year age-gap seemed about right for 'wife' #2. The audience that was in the theatre also enjoyed it. I think we tend to be a bit vocal - cheering & applauding more than other audiences; we're on a closed overseas Base.
sharePretty average, but could have been worse in all honesty. Wrote a review on my blog. C+.
