I could go anywhere from 8-10 but what the heck, I'm partial to wolves, so I gave it a 10.

A 9. It was a wonderful movie. I was crying throughout the movie. Made me want to move from the city to the countryside!

A generous Eight. And that's how I rate it. Its a nice anime (I don't like anime, plus Japanese language gives me mental cancer), but the first hour is a long drag. The plot is predictable, comedy is lighthearted and inconspicuous. The characters (artistic design) is ok at best, though the backgrounds are very pleasant to watch.
Nothing really special here, a good movie in general. Recommended for open-minded people and a must to watch for wolfaboos and Japanophile teens from across the ocean.

"My Neighbor Totoro" is an animated film about a lone parent with two children, one older, one younger, who moves to a new place in the country side. The parent struggles with family issues while the children create a magical connection with the nature they find in this new and special place.

You can tell that "Wolf Children" was homing on the magical touch that Miyazaki's films have - the sort of magical realism that allows the viewer to believe in the magical events taking place. But for me, "Wolf Children" falls short of this, and at times just seems ridiculous (a sex scene with a wolf, for example).

While "Wolf Children" is beautifully animated, and I would still recommend watching it, I would rate it about 6/10 (7/10 for fans of Japanese anime).

Heh, you're just racist . Just like me.
Personally this movie has great plot and epic ending. Yet, I hate Asian cartoon cause I hate Asian..
So I ended up giving it 1/10

8 out of 10. It made me cry, which I rarely do nowadays. But it still felt like it dragged a bit and I knew what was going to happen. It was a bit disturbing that they banged while he was in wolf form, but the rest was really cute and charming. The animation is gorgeous and makes the countryside of Japan look like heaven on earth. The music was also perfectly used to make a scene more powerful (loved the song in the credits). It's in my opinion Hosoda's greatest film so far and I am looking forward to see what he will do next.

I gave it a nine out of ten. It's one of those rare movies that is compelling and charming in its simplicity and genuine nature.

Not more than 7/10
It was a nice film, but with this content and story, 60 or 70 Minutes would have been enough. Too much clouds, running in the grass and forests.

There should have been more conflict. Between mum and her wolf children. More desperation. Conflicts between Yuki and her classmates and/or her boyfreind. He could have been a wolf child too. Or his parents could have been killed by a werewolf. Needs more drama.

Also the movie presented too much old role models. The signs at the classes. Pupils always obeying, being nice, being 'good girls and boys' etc.

Mum is always friendly, bowing and learning from the old. And she's working eventually lots of years for a minimum wage without complaining.

Doing bad plant work in modern times of the internet and a million websites and forums with growing tricks and tutorials is also strange.

BTW: what will the authorities, the school say when Ame suddenly disappears?

I give it a 10/10. It's literally one of the best films I've ever seen.

reply
