It was terribly executed, it was god awful narrative wise as well. The soundtrack made my ears bleed and the characters actions made me want to tell at the screen. If this didn't have the Pixar name attached to it, it's score on IMDb would be much smaller. 3.5/10
Dont bother man the film has many defenders who wont accept people who dont like the film.
Hell, i didnt hate it, i personally give it a 6 or even a 7/10, but to me its not even close to the greats like Incredibles, Wall-E or Grave of the Fireflies. I understood why people love it for making kids understand emotions, but it was so shockingly basic. I expected a lot more to be going on under the surface but really what you see is what you get with inside out.
A cheerful character that has that sad Pixar moment
Life lesson plot
Side characters for comedy
And personally, they did not develop riley enough. The emotions in her head felt separate from her as a person. Almost as if they were just puppeteering her. At the end of the day, its not a BAD movie to me, but a sorely dissapointing one that i think, critics embraced simply because it was Pixars better movies for a long time.
By the end of the film, i didnt get to know Riley as a person, and the emotions felt like the caricatures i thought they would be. Character arcs were extremely predictable, and the list goes on.
I loved the trailer, and i still think this could have made for a great short, but as a full blown movie, the middle act is pure padding and the conclusion is generic. You will be able to see it coming a mile away, so it didnt hit me at all.
The one emotional moment too with Bing Bong, also felt kind of manufactured for me. Like HEY heres the one character who is cheerful and likeable, lets use him to go straight for the tearjerker moment.
But hey, go on and flame me for not thinking the movie is a masterpiece.
I honestly have to wonder why people even care. I'd like to have that explained to me, personally, because I myself am not entirely sure. There are millions of things so many people just love, but I don't, and yet, I don't care. Never have, and never will. I just like what I like and let others like what they like. This film, if you're wondering, is not one of those films, as I am a part of the apparently silent majority that loved it. Maybe I just expect it to be that way or something? I don't know, but I am curious as to why people do care. This is not me talking down, I promise this is genuine curiosity and open-mindedness on my part.
For me I laughed super hard for the 1st half. But then it's like the movie took a direction, that just got kinda lame. The journey with the Pink elephant just went too far! I'm sure younger kids were all about it. But it was even hard to follow at times. The best parts of the movie is when they depicted the parents heads and stuff. They needed to do more of that, instead of the lame... "there goes candy land!".. oh there goes another one" Just got tired of it....
I'm an old guy who is desperately trying to stop calling these films cartoons.
But this had so much imagination and intelligent, well executed ideas that I don't know why another film maker wouldn't just give up after seeing this.
