Justin Timberlake .. ugh

Am I the only one who can't stand Justin Timberlake, and find that he nearly ruins every movie he's in? I can't take him seriously as an actor, he doesn't transform into any character he plays ... it's just Justin Timberlake on the screen, trying to be funny or a 'serious' actor (Bad Teacher, though this movie sucked as a whole, Black Snake Moan, The Social Network) I hate how he's in this one especially since I love the Coen brother's movies. Hopefully he won't have a big role.

reply

I dont watch justin timberlake movies!

DENNIS REYNOLDS: A well placed pen. It must have given him quite the thrill..

reply

No you aren't the only one. I didn't even notice him in the trailer though. Was he in it? How big is his part?

reply

He's in two, maybe three scenes. Probably under ten minutes of screen time but it's hard to tell from the script because they're musical numbers. Characters just rotate in and out except for Llewyn.

Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand.

Justin Timberlake is bad but Carey Mulligan is double ugh. She is such an awful actress and sucks the life out of every scene. I think she has only one facial expression.

reply

Agree.. Mulligan is double UGH!!!. Won´t see this movie.

reply

Holy *beep* what Carey Mulligan movies have you been watching. Imo you couldn't be more far off with that.

reply

Totally agree. Hopefully they both got real disgusting characters in this movie.

reply

haha actually they do. mulligan character is a total bitch. you'll love hating her!!

I see what you're gettin' at, I like the coens too, and feel not so enthusiastic about that idiot timberlake. Anyhow, I just seen Gambit, the screenplay was by the coens, and it was awful, just horrible.. maybe they're startin to loose it

reply

Justin Timberlake can act fools, he is really good in the social network he'll show you all.

If you think that cardboard, walk through in Social Network is "really good" clearly you haven't seen ANYTHING and know nothing about acting. Seriously. Casting JT was a demographic move to please the children that film was reaching for. If YOU were making a film with a character that is supposed to seduce the lead with the promise of fame, glamor and money - a character who is supposed to be a little edgy and a little scary and maybe a little corrupt... WHY would you go to JT? I mean really? with all the great actors out there? JT??? He's wretched.

I'm starting to think i need to boycott this Coen bros film because of him and the one note hack Carey mulligan. I'm so sick of sycophantic dipsh*ts who keep telling everyone that JT and Carey and a group of other hacks with little ability, death grip tenacity and great publicists are important performers. It's scary.

Carey Mulligan was fantastic in Shame. You're an idiot. Agree with you on Timberlake. I don't know what I hate worse, his totally phoney, autotuned over produced studio dreck he releases as music; or his acting.

reply

She was fantastic in Shame, and Justin was great in The Social Network. I'm looking forward to this film.

reply

I agree with you completely. It's not like I'm not going to see this movie just because one actor I dislike is in it.

reply

Possibly right about JT's acting. Though as one user above said it, he fits his roles because of his persona in the real world. What makes Carey so bad? Not sure how you determine if an actor is good or not, but she's had some good performances.

reply

I'm not for Timberlake or against him, but can we ALL just stop calling each other names? Respectfully disagree--ok?

Carpe Noctem!

reply

Sorry, but the people at the start of this thread talking about boycotting the film and the Coens starting to lose it (of course without having seen the film), they're just idiots. You can't euphemize that.

Saw the film yesterday and it is great.

reply

I can't stand him as an actor either and can't believe the Coen brothers would have him star in one of their movies.

reply

I cant stand even the idea of JT working with Coen Brothers. Are you kidding me? What were they thinking? I'm a fan of Coen's, now tell me what am i gonna do?

reply

I don't see why this is an argument against an actor per se. Couldn't you say that John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Woody Allen, Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant all never 'lost themselves' in a role either. I don't understand the idea that every actor has to do an imitation of someone else or they're not acting. No small part of me wishes I could say I didn't like Timberlake but the man is an engaging, talented and funny actor. Get over the fact he made crappy music when you were twelve.

reply

Get real. John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Woody Allen, Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant all have unique personalities and powerful screen presences, even if they're basically playing themselves. Timberlake is just another man-child with none of their qualities, and to make it even worse he makes lousy, cheesy music.

reply

I actually think he's probably one of the great male pop-music personalities along with Elvis, Michael Jackson and Kurt Cobain(for the record none of whose music I'm an especially big fan of). That aside when you begin talking about the type of character he plays and its relative merits you're actually making a real argument against him unlike a lot of the posters on this thread. Which is the point.

Bbethany7 If all roles were played by Gary Oldman, Ian Holm, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Alfred Molina, Heath Ledger, Fiona Shaw, Christian Bale, Daniel Day-Lewis, Jack Lemmon, Ben Kingsley, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem, Chrisopher Plummer, Peter O'Toole, Cristoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes, John Hurt, Ian Mckellen, Peter Sellers, Brando, Bette Davis, and Kare Winslet, among others, all of you would have very little to bitch and moan about.

A lot of close-minded dumbassery going on in this thread.

reply

Serious dumbassery.

I am going to go ahead and trust the Coens judgement over a bunch people on IMDB. I am pretty sure they are much more qualified to pick the cast for one of their movies than people who would probably never give Timberlake any credit ever or think Mulligan is a crappy actress.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I think most of the posters are around 13 years old.

reply

This thread is pretty ridiculous. I'm not a fan of JT's music at all, but he is an insanely talented guy. I've liked all his performances so far. And Carey Mulligan has always been solid too, IMO.

There has always been a lot of negativity on IMDb, but it really seems to be ramping up to ridiculous levels lately.

I am the videogame word made flesh.

reply

I thought he was great in The Social Network. He looks pretty good in the trailer, too, far as I can tell.
