I have just watched the film after reading most of the user reviews 1st.
One user said they should show this is schools. Now this might be a good idea in America seeing as though there were over 70 cases in 30 states. But not in the UK as fortunately we have better police who don't operate like this over the phone and also people in general in this country wouldn't fall for this disgusting prank!(Fact)
I do give the film an average score still though as the acting was good, so I give it a 5 out of 10.
PS - Instead of showing this is school, just spend more time in making children/teenagers more clever in general.
Ha! I love your (fact) that it wouldn't happen in the UK! Wasn't a nurse just pranked into giving medical information about Kate Middleton and her pregnancy? Story ended sadly, as I recall, but Americans don't have a monopoly on falling for this sort of thing.
Actually simulacrum that nurse wasn't British. She was from another of our old colonies though...India. To be fair to her, she wasn't asked to sexually assault anyone either, so the similarities are sparse. The abnormal degree of shame she felt would also suggest her error wasn't typical. I do agree that Americans don't have the monopoly on ignorance. However imho there was something curiously American about both the way Donna Summers embraced the opportunity to play follow the leader, whilst ordering someone else around, and then carried on like nothing had happened after.
What a ridiculous film. The fact that it says "Inspired by true events" at the beginning does obviously mean that most of the film is made up but why would the film makers want to portray the people involved as pure idiots? How much of the film is true, surely the spanking and what she did on her knees can't be accurate. I had high hopes when I started to watch the film but after an hour I couldn't take it seriously.
Why don't you actually look it up? You just make yourself look stupid because it actually did happen, and pretty close to how it was portrayed. Try and look at the facts before you criticise something.
You Win. I am wrong. Americans really are that stupid and of course if something is written in a newspaper, a book or the internet it has to be full of facts because no one over sells anything or ever lies for sensationalism. Please accept my apology.
Yeah, there are very simple procedures you can teach to avoid situations like this. For instance, when someone calls and say he's a cop, get his name, then hang up, call your local police, and ask to speak to that officer. After the initiation phase, though, if you're too stupid to understand that your responsibilities do not and never will include stripping your employees then you're earning any jail time you've got coming.
The 'only in America' argument is nonsense, but if this message board was a country it could definitely happen here based on the level of stupidity on show from both sides of the pond.
I can't believe I'm even having to say this but to the people calling Americans stupid- just no. Where you're born has no impact on your intelligence. On the other hand you will be almost unavoidably impacted by the culture you're brought up in and your parents. Where you're born will also affect the likelihood of you getting a good education. So those are all potentially factors in this happening.
I do think, as a few people have brought up, the attitude of and towards law enforcement in the US is probably a factor- the police are there to serve, not to be feared. You should never fear a cop unless you've actually broken the law and I'm not sure that that's as universally the reality in the US as it is in some other countries. The lack of support for out of work people is probably also a factor.
But despite that this could happen anywhere. Not to everyone, but the guy who did this probably researched his victims first so he knew he had a fair shot.
Well, you guys did once sign a treaty with Hitler that said basically do what you want in Europe, just don't bomb Britain.
"Righto! Well, that's that, then. The Furher says he won't attack. NO, he signed it. Well, he said he wouldn't. Yes, I believe it. I don't think...KA BOOM!"
There have been many british and European who fell for the Nigerian scam, with the last one I can remember lit himself on fire after losing 100's of thousands of dollars.
But hey, if it gives your egos a boost to think you're so superior to Americans, we'll let you keep dreaming:-)
I wasn't aware of this treaty- I'll admit, my history isn't great. But essentially that amounts to us saying 'if you leave us alone we'll leave you alone', which is exactly what the US did too- they were happy to watch Europe get conquered one country at a time (well, maybe not happy, but didn't get involved), assuming, like us I guess, that you were safe. Then Pearl Harbor happened and you went to war. So not the best example, but I agree with your overall point that Europe is not superior to America.
Then again, while loads of Europeans may consider themselves superior we get the exact same back from you guys. So many Americans seem to think America is the greatest country in the world- in reality it depends what factors you're considering, but that's debatable at best. And it goes right the way to the top of your government with the president often being called the leader of the free world, which is, frankly, nonsense.

Not nonsense at all. It's a term that has been used to describe the US president since the end of WW2, and it is a term that has often been applied by other Western governments. Europeans have been happy to allow the US to lead because it means they don't have to do it themselves. Unfortunately, this abdication of responsibility seems to weigh on the self esteem of the European and engenders animosity and resentment toward the nation that has done most of the heavy lifting for the better part of the past century.
