Strat, you are right. Ford BOUGHT wins at Le Mans, and then completely faded away. They had ZERO dedication to the sport. They had to hire outsiders Carrol
Shelby and John Wyer to shape their cars and manage their teams. Their 7-liter engines were nearly twice the size of Ferrari’s more technically-sophisticated overhead-cam V12. Brute force plus BIG money, and hiring pretty much the best racing drivers who were willing to drive at Le Mans (Jimmy Clark, one of THE all-time great F1 champions, said he thought it was too dangerous to race at Le Mans) equals big bore. My guess is that Hank Ford the deuce felt, uh, inadequate in the manhood department. The whole thing started because Enzo Ferrari would not sell Little Hank his company.
