I can't get the bottle open!

I know i'm a terrible person for this...but that made me lol.
Also...if she didn't take any pills, how come she had to go to the hospital?

That part made me laugh too! I just figured it was a but of Emily's humor/quirkiness shining through. I appreciated that part because with everything (the music especially) it was a pretty heavy scene.

Huh. Now that you mention it, that makes sense (the girl *does* enjoy a fair bit of dry wit), and, I have to confess, I actually don't remember that line (consider the fact that I was trying not to choke up and forgive me ), but now that I know, I interpret it as just Taylor's disgusted/ticked at herself/giving up subtext of 'oh jeez, I'm such a loser that I can't even open a flipping bottle!'

reply

Honestly, I cried hard. That was an intense scene for me.

Come on now, some of those childproof lids are also adultproof. I can't get some of them off myself and when you're upset, they are even tougher to try and open.

reply

I cried hard, too. It was a very emotional scene and I think Emily did an amazing job with it.

reply

Agreed.

So, I'm not gonna lie, but it did make me laugh a little bit. I know it was supposed to be a serious scene, but I think it was the way Emily delivered the line...I don't know. :|

It really depends on some people. The people who laughed or giggled, DIDN'T laugh because she's killing herself. We laughed because it was just the way the line was delivered, we can't help it. Some people laughed or giggled, while others reacted in other ways. People are DIFFERENT. Just to let you know, we didn't laugh to make fun of her, it was just the way it was delivered. It WAS an emotional scene nonetheless and it was really good.

The doctor said something about a sedative, so once they knocked her out they took her to the hospital to keep an eye on her.

And maybe she subconsciously didn't want to kill herself, so that's why she couldn't open the bottle.

You know why!

reply

He prescribed the sedative for her to take at home after she was discharged. They didn't sedate her on her way to the hospital.

--------

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

reply

Well, actually snooky26, about that scene. It was about to make me cry, but then when Emily said that line, it made me not want to cry.

reply

She could have been sent into a panic attack. Those, while not life-threatening normally, are terrifying. She could have gotten in a state of hyperventilation, too. Normally people who have attempted suicide go under a psych evaluation, and are held in the hospital for a certain period of time. She also obviously needed to be sedated, too.

I belong to the hurricane

reply

She was put in the hospital because she was suicidal. They needed to watch her to make sure she didn't try to kill herself again.

I didn't laugh at that part. I actually cried. It hit me so hard because I've been bullied and have felt like killing myself sometimes. The hate makes a person hate themselves over time and then all they want is the pain to go away.

Is everyone here extremely young or something? Laughing at this scene does not make you terrible in anyway, this scene was the goofiest and most pathetic 'serious' scene I've ever witnessed. I question the consciousness of anyone who didn't find it horrendous and hilarious.

I mean, first the girls posts an attention whore video over the most sadly trivial little issues. And then when her friend runs over to help her, she's yelling "I CAN'T GET THE BOTTLE OPEN!". That's funny for two reasons. It's funny that she can't open the damn bottle (especially in the 'serious context, it's almost like a parody) and more damn funny that she's making a scene obviously when she ain't done crap to herself to gain people's fear.

Who does that?? It's annoying and dumb.

When you think about the timing as well, there must have been at least a solid ten minutes of her in the bathroom trying to get the cap open.

Now, let's be serious. I have a bag race with the bad guys tomorrow...

"When you think about the timing as well, there must have been at least a solid ten minutes of her in the bathroom trying to get the cap open."

Um, not really, she walked around her room for a while pacing and knocking things over, probably contemplating and feeling crazy. And then, yes when her mom and friend get to her she is trying to open the bottle. So who knows how long she was in the bathroom with the pills.

Exactly!

reply

@GSmith9072 you obviously have no idea what depression is.

reply

Aww, let me guess, you know what depression is because you saw a video in your high school health class. It's something you get when a mean old bully embarrasses you in front of your tons of friends and you can't handle it and must fake a suicide attempt to alleviate the pain. That's what makes this video so heart breaking and I should stop being such an insensitive jerk. Haha :)

A lot you know, buddy. My father had depression and killed himself 9 years ago. My mother has depression. My brother has depression. I have depression. I was close to being admitted to a psych ward. You have no idea what people have to go through every single day of their life.
Something that might be a "sadly trivial little issue" to you could be absolutely huge to somebody else. Just because it wouldn't hurt you doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt them. And things add up. There were more things in the movie that we didn't get to see, just like in real life there are things that go on behind closed doors that you don't know about.

reply

:l Seriously, every single person in your family is or was 'depressed'? And yes I do 'know what depression is', I know, TOO MUCH.
What I don't understand is why you're on this board acting like this godwaful movie is somehow credible or admirable for something. The 'cyber bullying' displayed in the movie does not result in depression and anyone who gets depressed from similar events in this movie, I simply absolutely do not have sympathy for that. I see no depression I see an ego so huge in that insults from some loser force the character to 'kill herself' for attention and for reaffirmation of her importance. I can assure you that this hurts the person but that isn't my problem!

I'm sorry I find this movie extremely hilarious and corny! I have a family member who 'got admitted to a pysh-ward' for this absurdity. It is a concocted 'neo disease' label and there is a reason why 'everyone has it'. I can guarantee you if I visited a psychologist I would be labelled with this crap too. I find something inherently wrong with it, I feel like it enables people to dwell in their poor mental health. The 'cure' is most likely biological. But excessive ego is not depression! What is depression? If it even exists, it is probably a mix of many things for different people, but it is not an 'illness' in the sense like cancer. Getting all butthurt about things written about you on the net ain't depression.

"There were more things in the movie that we didn't get to see"

The whole POINT to film-making is to show things so we can get the point and message. As you can see in this thread, this film failed because it looked ridiculous and had no credibility. If anything you should have been offended by its trivial portrayals.

reply

No, not every single person in my family.
You have no idea what can result in depression. It is literally different for every single person. It's got nothing to do with one's ego.
Mental health are illnesses. Just because it isn't physical doesn't mean that it isn't an illness.
I don't even want to keep arguing over this, because unless you have depression you are absolutely NOT going to understand it.

This movie is more than that, though. It's one of those movies you're supposed to continue thinking about. One you're supposed to put thought in to to understand more things about it.

Gsmith- she did not fake anything... she hyperventalated, was frantic and desparate...literally it could have affected so many systems in her body including rational thinking and the muscles in her fingers... which led to more panick and exasperation... that's why it was an ATTEMPT and not a successful suicide, doesn't mean it was faked for attention.

reply

Wait, what? Are we talking about a movie here? Of course she 'faked' it. The thing was, it was abysmal faking (acting) that looked silly and stupid.

BUGS

reply

Oh, it made me laugh too! I feel so bad. man, they could have done that so much better. Even if they didn't want an actual suicide attempt they could have totally cut out the line at least. That was just ludicrous.

I think she went to hospital for being crazy.

reply

I kind of did chuckle at that line for a second because of the way that the line was delivered. But what made me laugh in this movie is when Scott told Taylor that his mom told him "Dude, check your ego." I LOL'd so freaking hard at that part.

reply

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Me toooooo! That scene was just so wrong. It was awkward and just awful. This movie is awful.
